Launching X-rebirth without steam?

Hey guys, so with 4.0 just around the corner I was wondering if there is a way to play xrebirth without steam (like you could with x3 ap) Mainly So I can have a copy of 3.61 saved so 4.0 doesn't kill the mods I do play with

for at least X3 it simply worked by using the old/current game assets/files with the no-steam-exe of a newer Version (made a Downgrade Mod which basically did this for mod compatibility back there which was used by some to keep playing XTM but DRM-Free until XTM was updated to the major changes the Patch introduced)

so in short just back up the game files somewhere and wait till the DRM-Free 4.0 exe comes (didnt look into this in detail yet - there might be some changes in script functionality with 4.0 - i have to look this up seperately)

Maybe a workaround would be to make a copy of the game folder, update the original to 4.0 then disable all automatic updates.

Then you could change the folder setting for the game and swap between the 2 versions like that, and keep the 4.0 updated manually.

Read my thread posted about a week ago, where I asked the same question. I will try to find the link when I got home. Basically you do 2 things:

Set update game when I start Steam
Set Steam update to happen at 3am,

So the combination is that update never happen
