Any way to repair an old save? - Now try 3.61 Hotfix2 (Public beta) for possible fix.

So last time I played this game was in November 2014. Since then I have upgraded to Win 10 and re-installed my system on a new SSD, so I have no idea which mods I was using last time I played the game. Besides, some of the mods have been abandoned and aren't updated for the current version anyway.

I've added a few mods and tried to load the old save. It goes to 100% but then it just sits there. The game doesn't freeze or crash - the animation in the top-right corner and music still play. If I start a new game it obviously works fine.

Is there any way to salvage/clean up the old save from all the orphaned mods, or will I have to start fresh (probably "cheating" and giving myself a couple of millions and a few ships to get me started)?

Err ... 'Not likely' (can be repaired) and 'Almost certainly' (needs a fresh start). As to cheating to get an advanced start - that is entirely up to you.

There is no realistic chance of repair for something as complex as this when it is not known what 3rd party content is included, what of that is obsolete, what is broken and how badly, nor even what past save edits have been made.

It is not even a vanilla Tech Sp topic for this forum so we'll let this go here. Somebody in the S&M forum might be able to recognise some of the mod/extension signatures in the save content if it is linked in a thread there, but that is a very long shot and may have to rely on the helper taking on a lot of work.

UPDATE: A Hotfix 2 for 3.61 Release has just been made in the Public Beta to solve some causes for hung loadings. Give it a try now on the off chance.
