Working SLI profile for AP ? - Modded game.

Post by Omicronperseai8 »

Hello,

I am having trouble running this game with SLI enabled.

I have LU mod installed and nothing else, but every time I pan the camera the fps goes from 60 to mid 30's - always lags when the swirly blue nebulae ? come into view.

Both cards never exceed 32% utilization in Afterburner, so I believe the game is not utilizing the cards properly. Interestingly, changing the view distance and other options don't have any effect. I also tried disabling V-sync but it was tearing badly and did not help the FPS issue.

The current profile I am using looks like this:

AO - Not supported
AF - Global
AA - OFF
AGC - On
A Mode - App controlled
AT - OFF
CUDA - ALL
Max pre-rendered frames - 2
Mixed GPU acc - Single display Performance
PMM - Adaptive
SLI Rendering Mode - Force Alternate Frame Rendering 2
Shader cache - ON
TF - ASO - OFF
TF- NLB - Allow
TFQ - Qaulity
TF-TO - ON
TO - Auto
TB - OFF
VS - ON
VRPRF - 1

Driver version 352.86
Windows 7 Pro 64bit SP-1

Any help would be great.

EDIT: I should also add, there was no performance increase going from single GPU to SLI mode.

After further testing it appears that the nebulae in Argon Prime are the main culprits behind the FPS spikes.

I have since then traversed through many sectors with a solid 60fps, the only exception being a slight drop to 57-58fps in one other sector.

Going off Afterburner statistics, the game is not SLI friendly at all, or at least not with my system.

The nebulae and sector backgrounds in LU are totally different to those of vanilla, so I am afraid your SLI issue is most likely mod-related.

Hey,

The particle effects and backgrounds added in the mod are most definitely the cause of said issues, though I am still stumped as to why SLI does absolutely nothing for performance for the base game.

Sure the game is utilizing both GPU's in what appears to be perfect load balance, but it's simply not using any resources, yet dips into low FPS. Even with the frame rate uncapped I was only managing 70-80fps with a constant 32% GPU usage on both cards.

Thank you for the help mate.

Games need to be designed to take advantage of SLI, or Crossfire. Past X games weren't, simple as that. X games, at least up until Rebirth, were much ore CPU intensive than graphically, so the developers probably concentrated on that aspect. To be honest, they really don't need the power of SLI, at least the vanilla games. My AP runs beautifully on a single old GTX265 card, and acceptably on ones like GeForce 8800 GT's.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

Indeed. I guess drivers can only optimize the game so much. It just sucks when you invest in multi-gpu's, but all the good old games can't use it anyway. :(
