Does anyone play X3AP w/ XRM on a 4790k?

Well, after much saving, I finally have enough to overhaul my entire system. I was running on Phenom ii x4 980, with a 4gig ram and a 6870. The framerate in AP was quite jarring. I've tired the game (running XRM mod) on my firend's i5 4590 (default at 3.3Ghz un-turbo'd) and R9 290, and the framerate in some sectors still doesn't impress me (going from my old rig's 20 to his rig's 25fps in Argon Sector M148 is hardly improving). I know that X3's engine prefers raw single core power, will I get better framerate if I get the 4790k? Or the x3 engine is how it is and a better cpu won't push it more and I rather spend less on a less powerful cpu?

i have 2500K and r9 275x and everything works fine. haven't tried it with XRM though. as i recall XRM worked OK (not great, but OK) on the same CPU with HD 6770.

so there may be other issues on your friends PC.

I have 2500k and r9 280 and XRM is practically unplayable because of low fps even when just flying around. And doing missions lowers the average fps even more. Even vanilla AP runs sometimes at less than 20 fps, but that happens usually only during big fights or when you build a huge complex.
