Instaling a mod with only a DAT file

Hello. I have a DAT file of a mod and I am a bit at loss on how should I install it, exactly. All mods I saw so far contain also a CAT file, but I have no idea how am I suppose to generate or make one. Any tip on what am I supposed to do under the circumstances?

it may be possible to reconstruct it, but thats tricky*.. what mod do you want to use?


* = .dat files contains all file contents concentated, and the .cat contains the Info about the File Name, Size/length and where in the cat it begins - so if you have a vague idea what files are in there you can reconstruct it..
if not stated otherwise everything i post is licensed under WTFPL

Ich mache keine S&M-Auftragsarbeiten, aber wenn es fragen gibt wie man etwas umsetzen kann helfe ich gerne weiter ;)

I wont do Script&Mod Request work, but if there are questions how to do something i will GLaDly help ;)

Probably a better question is what is the mod name? One of us may have a copy hanging around if it's no longer available on nexus or wherever.

Well, there are DAT unpackers after all, so i might have a chance.

And I doubt about the mod. A buddy sent it and asked to try and see wth is that and how to make it work. Dunno about the name yet.

i really doubt that - as i explained earlier the metadata is missing because its in the cat file only.. no automated way to extract data from an egosoft dat file without the cat.
