The DVD version obviously has a stand-alone exe and Steam is .. well, Steam. That was an outcome of what of you decided to buy.
No doubt somebody will sooner or later mention the possibility of extracting an exe file from a patch for the DVD games but I am not 100% sure that is an 'officially supportable' or guaranteed solution so I shall shut up now.
Please note that Tech Sp is really for actual game bugs or system performance problems. Therefore moving this to X Universe Trilogy forum.

just copy your steam installation into the desired folder, install the latest patch over it (eg this one) and have fun with your steam-free installation

if not stated otherwise everything i post is licensed under WTFPL

In a word yes if like me you bought the dvd version when it first came out, if however you bought the steam version then no there isn’t a no steam exe that you can downloadanybody could tell me if exist a X3:TC no-steam.exe
because AP unlike TC never had a no steam version the version you bought when you went to a games shop was the steam version which severely ****ed off a lot of loyal fans like me that absolutely detest steam with a passion and have vowed never to go any where near that hideous resource hog ever again not after the debacle of Half Life 2 and not being able to play the game I played good money for like 12 hours after installing the game because I had to sit there downloading stuff off the server at the equivalent speed of a 56k modemIf u already give a no steam exe for X3:AP, why u don’t do the same for X3:TC
a.) because of the worst DRM I ever encountered in the last 20 years or so years of gaming with maybe the exception of Spore which is quite possibly worse.
and
b.) because it was Christmas and everyone else who bought Half Life 2 was trying to do the same thing and there servers couldn’t cope.
so yeah I’ll never forgive them for wrecking Christmas that year and I will never go any where near steam ever again nor will I buy any game that uses such hideous aggressive and overbearing DRM which requires me to have an internet connection just to play a game I have paid good money for.
this is of course why Ego released a no steam exe for AP for fans like me that have a vitriolic hatred of steam and want nothing to do with it although personally I’m of the opinion that they should just make both a steam and no steam version and then let there customers decide which version they want because realistically code wise there is very little difference between the steam and no steam versions yes it requires a little extra support on Ego’s part which is why they went down the steam only route and don’t get me wrong I understand the appeal from Ego’s point of view but that still doesn’t change the fact that it’s a really really bad and I’ll considered move on there part.
which is why I don’t own a copy of AP or Rebirth nor do I see my self owning a copy of either until the white box editions of both come out that have all the updates/extra content installed by default and all the DRM and the need for steam removed.
Besides with regards to Rebirth I hear a lot of very bad things from the player base, a lot of complaints, and a lot of things not working as they should because the game was rushed in to release before its was any where near ready to be released to the public which is really bad behavior on Ego’s part and as an interactive media student one of the first things I got taught is that you never under any circumstance release a project until its ready because you will destroy your reputation as a designer and that isn’t a good thing for a relatively small developer like Ego you do that and you will very likely find your self going out of business because bad news spreads like the Spanish flu which is why consumer shows like Watch Dog get results because companies don’t want there bad behavior being exposed the public because its is damaging as hell to there reputation and there business but I digress and this is a discussion for another day in any event I hope that answered your question.
