I think how it's going to shake out is that you can buy soon and get the teladi DLC for free, or buy at christmas for cheaper and have to buy the teladi dlc.
if you're interested in x rebirth i think 3.0 is a good time overall though, there will probably still be niggling issues with the core game but a lot of stuff is fixed and a lot of other stuff is improved. And significantly more content than the base game.

Irrational factors are clearly at work.

3.0 is so close now that you can wait for it, although if don't own the game you want the DLC free better purchase now and wait until 3.0 is released.
3.0 will be awesome, I can tell you that since I'm testing beta and despite some rocky beta versions (as usual) it is great and many more great things coming afaik.
Not only that, Egosoft has listened hard to the community, they are more communicative than ever, fixing more based on community feedback than ever and converting Rebirth in probably the best game they have ever made.
I just can't wait to see what is the new DLC bringing with hazardous areas, teladi sectors and bring the pirates to life finally, oh and Long Range Scanner is getting some very cool improvements, not to mention the crafting the new smalltalk options to get to train your hired personnel, the new missions, fixed bounties, etc.
Seriously, I've played X2: The Threat, X3:Reunion, X3:TC, X3:AP... all so many hours I would be ashamed to admit in front of anyone ...and still Rebirth 3.0 will be MUCH BETTER than all previous iterations in all aspects.

Are you kidding? Long Range scanner is looking allot better.
I love the Locked boxes and you can actually make some serious dough doing it as well.
Spent 10 minutes out in empty space and made around 7 million credits from item trading what I found.

but but but... I said Long Range Scanner was getting some cool improvements!

and not only that, the parts you loot for hacking, or the "rare engine" crafting parts you can get from blasting pirates..if you really end up getting a new engine from that, opens a whole new world to exploration and for improving/modifying the Skunk from "non-official" trading ways, in one word: amazing!

7 million credits by just 10 minutes of work? I hope that isn't true or that I'm misunderstanding you.spankahontis wrote:

ATM in 3.0beta X Rebirth is pretty easy to make alot of money in many different ways.AdánPasos wrote: 7 million credits by just 10 minutes of work? I hope that isn't true or that I'm misunderstanding you.
- I'm still getting the hang of station building but you can make alot that way.
- Trading finally works, you can make quite a bit that way if you find some good trades and discounts.
- You can cap ships and sell them. (balors I can cap in about 5 minutes, worth 6 million plus another 1-1.5 million for the mission to kill them)
- You can do long range scanning / item looting from stations.
- You can do various kinds of missions, from transporting items, to station scanning, pirate raids, etc.....
All in all, many many things to do in this game, all of which can make you a good amount of money.

The key being the wording "will be". At this time, it's not there yet, but I'm definitely more optimistic now than one year ago. Progress was slow for the first 6 months or so as they were working with what was essentially a completely broken game. Now they've moved on from that and started working on gameplay enhancements, balancing etc. You know, stuff that actually makes a videogame "fun" (that's why we play games).ezra-r wrote:Seriously, I've played X2: The Threat, X3:Reunion, X3:TC, X3:AP... all so many hours I would be ashamed to admit in front of anyone ...and still Rebirth 3.0 will be MUCH BETTER than all previous iterations in all aspects.

The inflation of credits seems to be damn high since shutdown of the gates.
In the current Beta build it is damn easy to earn several million credits in a few minutes (even if they change the lockbox spawn rate as linolafett said).
You can earn 200.000 credits just by transporting one person to another station in the next zone (no enemies attacking you) which is done in 2 minutes.
I don't know why people like this but it seems that I was one of the few who didn't liked this.
I hope they rebalance this again with 3.0 as this is not fun right now.
I hope Egosoft does not make the same fault as many studios before (like DICE i.e.) listening to the players when it comes to balancing.
I remember when you got in X3 maybe a few credits for making a blackboard mission and after a few days you could afford your very first slightly better ship. Wow, what a moment!
Well now you can buy 14freighters after one mission and 10minutes...
Destroys the game for me right now (which is not bad because I have lots to do before christmas

Personally I'm having a lot of fun with the 3.0 beta. I'm more of a trader/builder guy, haven't done any might ship combat stuff yet.
Here's something I posted last week:
Here's something I posted last week:
Of course, your mileage may vary. After launch I took a break until 2.51 was released and tried again, but it still felt like a chore due to various bugs and issues.
These issues have now more or less all been resolved, and I'm finally enjoying it properly.
Performance is mostly good now. Zones with several stations and asteroids still get bogged down, but for most other zones I'm finally 60+ fps which is nice.
Trading is finally fun, thanks to the non-squad trading, new trading computers as well as the infamous "follow me" bug being fixed.
The improved small-talk is great, makes it worth while to engage in. Also makes it harder to hack which is good. The additional voice work is very welcome too.
Ability to build stations out-of-zone is just awesome and works very well for me.

All that money in beta might be there for easier testing - you get access to diff game features much quicker, and can cover more areas with your tests.
@OP i'd play it when they release 3.0 - there are promising changes, like new map, station building in empty space, station price setting, freight transfer, ship commands and some more.

All they need to do is fix broken economy and stations (NPC new built stations that are missing crew ) and game might be playable.... It is all nice that they are adding new staff but what is the point when whole economy collapse every 40 to 60 hourspref wrote:

I expect that with being able to set sell/buy prices for our stations, and with freight transfer it should be manageable even if they cannot fix current eco issues. I might be mistaken..Nikola515 wrote: All they need to do is fix broken economy and stations (NPC new built stations that are missing crew ) and game might be playable.... Are you playing beta?

I think that they are puttting most of good stuff into DLC (like new ships, new stations, new factions), because in 3.0 beta change log there is not much groundbreaking stuff except maybe new missions and ability to forge some useful items from the stuff you find in station containers.
Therefore I think it's better to buy it now with free DLC than wait to christmas sale that might or might not come and having to pay for DLC.
Since 2.5 this game is actually playable and with a few mods installed it's enjoyable, so after 3.0 + DLC it can only be better.

To be fair you have everything in the v3.0 b5 that you have in the DLC in terms of features. The new DLC brings a new set of regions and from what I've seen so far, a slightly different faction mechanic that introduces the concept of cartels, pirates and obviously the profit driven Teladi who will tolerate anyone as long as they make profit. Granted the new ships and stations are nice but you pay by playing in a much more hazardous arena than you currently have in-game without the DLC.
It's also important to re-iterate that the B5 changelog is not the final and full feature set for the V3.0 release.
In my book it would be silly to wait until 3.0 is released and then pay for the DLC. The game is miles away from where it was 12 months ago - much more polished, better game mechanics, better balance, more choice, a smoother experience regardless of the FPS you can achieve and above all it's starting to feel worthy of being called an X game - YMMV but my advice would be go for it now and take advantage of the DLC for free.
