As subject states, when I assign a Taranis to the Defense Officer of one of my stations, they patrol in the same plane as the trade traffic. This causes several problems. For one, they will fire on any red ships that are in the station traffic trade lanes all the time. This causes random shots and splash damage to incur faction hits sometimes when you're flying in the mix.
Also, and probably more importantly, they completely disregard the other capital ship/freighter trade traffic and are constantly ramming the other ships or getting rammed way off patrol course by an incoming, boosting ship. The problem gets exponentially worse if you have multiple stations and/or assign multiple caps to the defense officers.

same happened to me had one Lyranea bumped by fulmekron around 20-30 meters away when it was docked and it couldnt collect the drones and undock until i left the area and returned few minutes later
i did noticed tho that this solved by command relay (satalite dish)
it enchance the range of the station and the ships patrolling at bigger range after it is build (after building it did not noticed the bumping issue at the station)
couldnt conform cuz i did not followed the issue (plz conform if true)

Station relay upgrade module doesn't make a difference for me. its one of the first upgrades I usually do. For me this is just their path. Every station they fly tight circles around the station, which is fine. But they travel in the same parallel plane as all the trade traffic and simply plow through everything in their way. Shields on capitals are pretty much useless in the systems I have put stations down.
The Lyranea I'm finding is a horrible ship. It's got all the right stats but it only works right when assigned to a manager, and even then it has that large, square front that hits and catches everything. For some reason it doesn't know how to dock at OL stations unless you're in sector with it.
