Graphics card staying idle?

Post by bmtv0957 »

Hey, I've got an R9 280x, and for some reason when I'm running the game my gpu stays at 500mhz, which is the cards idle speed. It only seems to do this for x-rebirth.

I'm running 14.4 catalyst version.

Rest of my specs:
i5 750(@3.4ghz)
16gb DDr3
Windows 7 64 bit

I have a 7970 which is basically the same card as yours.

Give Radeon Pro a shot: http://www.radeonpro.info/download/

It beats the pants off of Catalyst, and you can configure it to force your card to stay at max clocks -- which would solve the problem you're having.

It can exist side-by-side with catalyst, but many end up uninstalling catalyst and just keeping the drivers.

The developer stopped working on it after landing a job with Raptr, so I would expect it to stop working at some point... at which point I'll be going over to the green team. I believe I'm using the 14.3 drivers, and it works fine for me (single GPU). I didn't bother upgrading to 14.4 since there's no reason for me to.

Hope that helps.

I would say this is a driver set up issue, I'm running 14.6 beta drivers and both my cards spin up when playing X:R. May be worth setting the drivers to default, save, re-apply your personal setting and try the game again.
