Cache check
I have done a cache check and it found a problem. What do I do now?

I don't fully understand. If you do the cache check and Steam finds a problem then it will try to repair your game installation by redownloading the missing files. Some things that can stop the repair being effective are corrupt and/or modified files that it cannot repair or remove. Obviously you have to be online with Steam running. So what is your actual problem?

Ah, if you may have a Bonus Pack installed that causes one of the gamefiles to be replaced with a differently dated version of a gamefile. The Steam verify does not like that and replaces it with the original download version. I don't *think* the issue is serious and the actual file date version in use does not really matter.
Having verified and replaced the file once, it *should* not pick it up again if you rerun the verify on that install. Is that what you are seeing happen?
By the way, when uninstalling a game always manually delete the game folder for that game before reinstalling - to get rid of any corrupt or modified files that the uninstaller cannot remove. See towards the end of this Sticky.
What problems are you having in-game, in which X game and has it ever been modded?
