[2.0] Stop Current Task Problem

So, picked the game back up to play the 2.0 release, started with the Builder start. Went off and bought me a ion harvester to try to make some extra cash on the side, but cannot give him any orders. Only option is to stop current task. When you use that, the reply telling you they will follow you now, but if you talk to them again you have the same option of stopping the current task. It never changes to where I can give them a new task. Thought it might be a fluke so went and attacked a trade ship and captured it, put a new captain on it and same problem. Cannot issue a new order, only have the option to stop current task.

I've had this once too, can you order them to do something while they're following you? I noticed you can queue trips or order upgrades and the like, but they don't do anything if you've told them to hold position; that is their defacto order, their "following" state is actually their "do what I told you, then follow me" state.

Its somewhat confusing and silly (but that's my opinion ). Hope this helps, because I spent a good 20 or so minutes raving about this myself in frustration.

I've not owned one yet but if they are run similarly to mining ships, you probably have to fly to where there resources are and then you might have a new command appear along the lines of "gather resources here".

Sparky Sparkycorp is right, you need to be at a place that have the recource you want to gather, else you cannot order him to do it.
Also a little checklist you need to have him work:
He needs Scoop Collectors, the more the better, I would say no less than 20
I am not sure about this, but I remember I once had a miner without defence officer and this one didnt want to do anything, even though I was in a place with plenty of recources. When I got him a DO, it worked as intended. This was back in 1.18 or something though, could have been changed since then.

Also, I might disapoint you, but base things, like plasma and ore etc generally give very little money. Filling your ship will probably take half to whole hour, and give around 100k if you are lucky.

While I understand that you need drones to gather (which I did have enough) this also prevents me from using the Take me somewhere option as well. Cannot give them any orders aside from Assign new superior and Stop current Task. Thanks for the update CBJ, any clue if it would be a retroactive fix for existing saves or would I need to start a new one?

If all else fails, just park on the Freighter and tell your Captain to "come on board" and then reassign him to the ship again through main menu>>crew>>Call Remotely
See if that breaks the bug?
