I spent a day troubleshooting this. The problem isn't on my end.

While I haven't checked your crashlogs and dxdiags, I was getting a lot of regular crashes; I now get them every now and again, but I've spent a lot of time in DeVries which is a lot less intensive than Omicron or Albion.
Regardless, got rid of most of my crashes by reinstalling the VC redistributables that came with XR (delve into the /steam/steamapps/common/X Rebirth/_CommonRedist/ and install them manually). I also saw one tip to reduce your system sound quality to DVD Quality (16bit 48000Hz)… if you're using Windows Vista/7/8 right click on your audio control -> playback devices -> properties of your chosen device -> Advanced tab; should be in there.
I still get them occasionally when docking/undocking, which I have to do for the smalltalk, but its a step up from regular 5-40 minute crashes I was getting.
