Since day 1 lag in UI. Does Ego work on this ?
I mean it is not a big thing but if you use UI a lot then it should be obvious that it should be quick and shouldn't pause whole game for a half a second
Just checking what is PMC or trying to see own property makes whole game freeze for split second. Using UI for longer time is very annoying thanks to those "ticks"
Couldn't whole UI just be rendered even without it being on screen. Sure i could take 1-2 fps hit but i would gain many more frames on fluid ui..
edit:
Video of this problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQihc-U ... e=youtu.be
Notice how asking game for description of faction halts whole game for split second. This problem occur on almost all UI changes like going to trading, personal info and so on.
edit2:
I am currently running 2.00 beta but this problem occur as I said in thread title since day1
Also my specs:
i5-3470 (3,8Ghz)
AMD 7970 3GB
4GB DDR3 ram

No it's not. UI sure is improved more slick in therms of usability (still has long way to go)
What i am talking about is that UI on every screen space change (like going to decription of item/ship/etc.) halt whole game for split second and then it continues.
It just Displaying different text. There shouldn't be anything like that in release version much less than post patch version and yet this thing still annoys me and many people.
I will upload video soon on yt with it to further clarify what i am talking about.

I'm seeing the same improvement as ICO - no more 1-2 sec dealy on opening and navigating each layer of menu... -does a happy dance- I don't mean to say that you aren't still seeing issues, just it's working a lot better for me.

Again it is not due to FPS. In video below you can see clearly that aside from first menu load lag game stays at perfect 30FPS.
Naturally that doesn't include times when you use UI when game just halt for a split second and then continues normally.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQihc-U ... e=youtu.be
Imo this looks to me like game upon getting request to show next UI it start load process and looks like most of UI is done on the fly with poor results (performance wise).
Imo resolving this issue would be to preload UI assets instead of requesting them every-time you change UI screen. Or just run whole UI in background (but that would hit FPS a little). I mean basic descriptions of things isn't really that much data.
Naturally i am not prog @ ego so i don't really know what is going on. One thing is sure.... Using UI shouldn't halt game for split seconds over multiple menus. Good UI is first and foremost fast and fluid.

Watching your video I seem to be getting similar performance to yours with the new beta. Hugely improved over launch thru 1.31 on my machine at least
Hopefully the move to a 64bit client will assist in the ui fluidity - currently XR bangs against the 32bit app memory limit so theoretically at least caching more ui elements with the full 64 bit address space (assuming the client machine has enough unused ram anyway) could remove these hitches.
Another approach might be something like SWTOR uses - essentially a private disk cache that works like the games own swap file which can also be moved to a RAM disk if the user has enough system memory. On my machine I see a decent performance increase using the 3rd party ram disk utility SWTOR Unleashed on load times and high player density areas where heavy texture usage becomes an issue due to the variety of appearance costumes.

I don't think this problem is connected with available memory at all.
Notice that game stops for a split second when you go to description of faction. And with each faction description there is same split second problem.
What changes between those menus ?
Part of UI, text and voice is added nothing more. And yet it holds up whole game for this. I can fly fly ship to most performance intensive sectors and sure FPS will drop but it will never hold up for a split second.
You can be in empty space and it will still stop game for that split second which means it is engine connected.
Also i tried to run game on both SSD (SATA3) and HDD and results are the same.

That is definitely weird. Never seen it but it does look like from a technical standpoint that your game is loading the text but is really slow in accessing it. As in almost a HD issue. However you said you had this on an SSD and the same problem occurs. Hrmmm can you get us a DxDiag of your computer and put it on pastebin? Maybe something in there can give us a clue to the cause of this issue.

You have never seen it ? Now that is weird. What is your system spec ? Do you use SSD or HDD ?
I'll post soon dxdiag log. I am copping currently to SSD game to check if game on SSD will work differently in 2.00 version.
here is my DXdiag:

Where's the rest of the DxDiag?
Should be huge in its full form. Stuff that wasn't shown can be helpful in determining issues. My full DxDiag is linked below and no I've never seen this issue. In fact besides the highway crashes I've had a pretty stable and high FPS experience on both my machines(one is SSD and other is not). Even more now with 2.0.

As this issue seems very rare, you are the first to report this issue in like half a year, i can only assume that the computer causes this lag problem.
So you are saying i should get another 4GB or DDR3 ? Done i just ordered. I should now have total of 8GB of DDR3 ram and 3GB of Vram or my GPU.
Mind you when i set game to 1600x900 with all options in graphics to ultra game doesn't take more than 3.5 GB normal DDR3 ram so i don't know what this has to do with 4GB DDR3 memory i have.
[ external image ]
i was a bit late to do screencap but you can see clearly how much physical ram game takes before cut (i alt+F4 game)
Now for second problem of reporting first in half a year.
This problem has occurred on TWO different rigs i had/have.
First i played 1.00 version of game with Q9300 @ 3Ghz + HD6870(1GB GDDR5 vram) + 4GB DDR2 mem on Windows 7 64bit. Problem like in my video occurred.
I upgraded recently my rig and now i have entirely different PC including motherboard which i described to you:
i5 3470 (@3.8Ghz) + HD7970 (3GB GDDR5 ram) + 4 GB DDR3 Kingstone ram + entirely different mobo.
So this problem probably isn't rare as you say. Especially if YorrickVander said in this thread this also happens to him (though it improved from 1-2 sec to probably same as mine split second)
Now for crash problem. This isn't really connected to X REbirth. I play some other game which is in alpha and it constantly crashes.
edit: I checked it properly. I closed dxdiag when it was still running.

I've recorded another Vid:
Actual UI problem is near half of video. I recoreded more because i want to show it is not FPS. Problem. It is strictly UI problem
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAKJDRc ... e=youtu.be
If you want i can also record video from sector in which i get like 60-70 FPS and still UI will halt whole game for split second every time i want to access new UI screen like faction description

Great for oredering more ram. Its not about the 3.5gb ram rebirth uses. Its more about the management of the 3gb vram with only 4gb normal ram.
With the 8gb ram your system is now balanced and should run smother across the board.
So the UI lag only appears, when a menue is opened, after its opened there is no lag when selecting submenues etc?
Could you retest with the new installed ram, if thats still occuring i will annoy the ui human a bit

I will take a day or two for Ram to arrive (i ordered online)
I will test it though naturally.
As of UI lag.
If you look carefully on my two videos you will see that lag only happens when you load new UI. Going from no menu to for example propety menu causes this split second lag. Going from Property menu to faction description causes lag.
If you choose Player ship info, each of those UI like Storage, info and so on which you can expand do not cause lag.
Lag only occurs if you access any UI but parts of those UI like expanding UI which describes for example shipp hull hitpoints does not cause lag when you expand them.
This is why i think it is something with your engine and not with my PC. As i said i tested it on two different PCs (one with only 1 GB of Vram).
In game there is no lag caused by hard use of ram like objects not fully loaded or lag when approaching new objects (due to game using disc instead of ram).
Lag is only in UI.
