1.30 rc6? (current beta) game wont launch - resolved in 2.0

i havent played since about 1.25 and i saw the huge patch notes and decided to try. Game wont even load, hangs before the opening video. Disabling the intro video causes hang in same spot. I removed all the mods i had and still hangs, I verified the game cache (steam) and it said it was good, i opted out of beta and let it patch and then did a verify and it said it was good, then i opted back into beta, downloaded patch and still hangs. I will post a dump soon

I uninstalled the game and re-downloaded and it still wont launch.

Using AMD 14.3 beta drivers

I guess i should mention that the game would only create dumps when running the exe in compatibility for windows 7 mode, With comp mode off, the game stopped creating dumps and would just lock, when it dumps esc closes the game.

I deleted the Egosoft folder in my documents and the game is creating dumps now but still won't load, also steam cloud is disabled.

This game worked on the Mantle beta drivers before, not 14.3 though. I play Battlefield 4 way to often to uninstall my drivers. Every other game works...

There seem to be two different problems here. Both are unexpected situations that the game isn't currently able to handle, but which we should be able to make it cope with better in a future update.

In the meantime, one of them can be worked around by unplugging one or more input devices. Currently your PC is reporting more than 4 joysticks or similar devices - this may just be a peculiarity of the driver reporting the same device several times, or you may really have such a setup (if you do then it would be interesting to hear what you have).

The other problem may or may not be driver-derived, and if it is then whether it's related to your graphics drivers or your Xonar drivers isn't entirely clear. Since we've seen a number of problems with Xonar drivers in the past, it might be worthwhile (and helpful to us in diagnosing this) if you could remove the Xonar drivers temporarily and try using, say, your on-board sound.

thanks for the reply, I have a saitek x55 rhino which is 2 separate devices (throttle and stick) and saitek rudder pedals. I'm using a virtual joystick to combine all 3 devices into 1 so x rebirth reads them as 1 device, this sort of worked before although it read the v-joy and the joystick at the same time making it impossible to bind controls.

As for the Xonar drivers, I haven't had any problems with X rebirth and my sound card in the past, unless you guys changed something. I could temporarily disable the audio device and see if it works, but again, i dont think its that unless you guys changed something specific to sound.

With the changes to joystick support in 1.30 it's a very real possibility that something changed which would affect this, so yes, please try it with fewer devices plugged in.

Regarding sound, yes it's quite possible we changed a call which in turn resulted in a different driver function being called, one which could have problems. So yes, please try with the Xonar disabled.

K i will unplug my PS3 controller and if that doesn't work, the rudder pedals. Game hopefully will launch with 3 devices.

I will also disable my Xonar card as the default device (onboard is disabled in bios) so i will just test with no sound and see what happens.

I will be able to try in 2 hours on my lunch break, will post back then.

I disconnected my PS3 controller and checked preferred devices for game controllers and 'none' was selected for some reason, I selected my vjoy and the game launches! thanks for that suggestion. (based on that, seems the game only likes 4 gamepad type devices at once) What changes were made for joysticks? Perhaps i don't need to use Vjoy and UJR anymore if it reads individual devices properly now.

Nevermind, i still have to use VJOY and UJR if i want to use my rudder pedals, but glad to see good support for 2 devices normally now. I can finally play this game with all my devices and have it work correctly with strafing. Thanks for your hard work guys.

A few questions are you still running with -skipintro?
If so I'm guessing if you remove it the game still crashes?
In the campaign start there's a movie right away, can you test if that also crashes?
Also please test the credits video in the start menu.
Lastly can you try if the videos crash if you play in windowed mode and/or without anti-aliasing and vsync.

everything is working properly once i unplugged my ps3 controller (5th device)

I don't have the nointro command running and the videos play fine.

Seems to be just related to having too many game controllers plugged in

I turned off AA and set to windowed mode and the videos play fine too, the only thing i noticed was while in fullscreen mode i had to alt+F4 to get out without watching the entire credits. In windowed mode with no AA and no vsync (i never have vsync on with this game) I was able to push esc and go back to the main menu.

just want to update that the patch today fixed the crash caused by more than 4 devices plugged in.
