Asking if my rig will run X:R

Post by Sparky Sparkycorp »

Hello,

I've not updated my system for a while so I am not sure if it will cope with Rebirth 1.25. Is this something anyone could advise me on?

CPU: E7400 C2D, OCed to 3.5 GHz.
GPU: ASUS NVIDIA GTX 460.
RAM: OCZ PC2-8500, 4 GB (2x2 GB), DDR2, 1066MHz.
SSD: OCZ 256 GB.
HD: 1 TB.
OS: Win 7, 64.

Game could be installed on either drive. I'm not expecting high FPSs or to use max settings, of course. Playable FPSs on moderate setting would be fine if that's realistic.

Thanks in advance,
Sparks

Edit: Added OS.

I'd take a bet that the ram amount would be the weak point for XR, it slams against the boundaries of a 32 bit app. You might see a bit of swap activity, although if your swap is on the SSD the effect would be minimal.

Out of interest, and to avoid replicating a mistake in the future, please could someone explain why this thread was moved here from the Technical Support forum?

The stated system requirements in that forum were posted pre-release so apart from asking, I cannot think of another way to ask what is needed to run Rebirth today before buying it. I thought that would be an appropriate forum to ask in.

Your question falls within the 'will it run on my machine?' category.

"Special notes for the "Technical Support" Forum:

This forum is for people encountering difficulties in getting their game to run or for non-Devnet members to report what they consider to be a bug. It is not a forum for general technical advice - for that please post in the Off Topic forum ."

Thanks for the reply and explanation.

Although I had read information in stickied threads in the "X Rebirth - Technical Support" forum before posting this thread there, I wasn't familiar with advice at the end of you post so I used Google.

I found that advice in a stickied thread in the forum entitled "X³: Reunion, X²: The Threat, X-T and X-BTF - Technical Support" but I'm not sure where it is in the Rebirth forum. I probably simply missed it. If, on the off chance, that it isn't in the Rebirth forum, I'd suggest adding it.

With that CPU 10 - 15 FPS, even though it is OCed

Cheers Zelnot, that's a helpful estimate.

I have an E7200 @ 3.24Ghz, and I can say Zelnot's stimate is accurate.

I picked up the game so I'm replying with some initial results in thanks to the
replies.

Firstly, I corrected the CPU name in 1st post, although the OC speed was accurate so it doesn't make a difference. I just OCed the GPU's core and shader speeds by 24% and it's memory speed by 19%. The game is on the SSD.

Results:
Space FPS: 10-15 in initial sectors (as predicted)
Highway FPS: 5-10 (slowest close to destinations)
Station: 10-30 (although not that important)

Settings:
1920x1080 resolution
AA set to 4-times
Anisotropic filtering grayed out
V-Sync on
Shaders on
SSAO normal
Glow normal
Distortions on
LOD setting 30
View distance 50
Effect distance 50
Shader quality normal
Gamma 100
