In what way does it not launch? How far do you get and with what results or messages?

I have the latest version and it launches OK. I suggest that you check your shortcut (if used) is pointing correctly and advise that you try different Steam, shortcut and direct methods to run the game (as admin if necessary).

Also check that resolutions or graphics settings have not messed up after say a graphics driver update etc.

I have removed the game folder and asked Steam to re-download it.
atm at 50%.

Hoping this works.

I thought about graphics,but the graphics settings etc don't appear until you get the main menu.
Al I could get was a black screen with the Rebirth cursor.Not even any part of the intro with the large crystal

Update...

I had set it on full screen 1280 x 720 on the smaller of two monitors that I use.

I also have Display fusion installed and later changed the Primary Monitor to the larger.

Rebirth settings were confused.


Upon resetting the primary, it worked and I could access the Graphic settings.
This enabled me to change to a window and run in either monitor,regardless of primary monitor selection.

I thought I should update,just in case someone else (no, not him,lol) makes the same mistake.

Thanks TTD, this post helped me. I struck a similar problem. I'm posting here because I think this is a bug that should be fixed.

Firstly, I used to be able to load X-Rebirth fine on a 1920x1200 monitor set to full screen mode at that res.

I haven't played for some time (waiting for bugs to be patched) and in the meantime upgraded to a 2560x1440 screen.

Tried to start X-Rebirth today, it would load for a second or two (the spinning circle would display, but the intro movie would not). It would dump me back at the desktop, but the X-Rebirth .exe was still running consuming a whole CPU core.

I also tried deleting my local content (both in my documents folder and the steam folder) and re-downloading the game from steam. Same result.

I played with the on-screen menu of my monitor while the circle screen was up, and noticed that my monitor was in 1280x720 mode at that time. I changed my windows resolution to that setting, and X-Rebirth would load.

I then tried to change X-Rebirth to 2560x1440 full-screen, and was dumped back to the desktop. I changed the desktop res back to 2560x1440 and could switch back to X-Rebirth to confirm the settings. From this point on everything works again.

Obviously this sequence of steps should not be required to change resolutions in the game.

Yes. I agree.
There should be some sort of res check built into the loading procedure,that will get around this problem,instead of having a fit and dumping out.
