Hi guys,
I pre-purchased X Rebirth having played X2 and 3 many moons ago.
I found the tutorial lacking and can imagine it would completely confuse new players to the series.
My suggestions are based around feeding information to the player.
The X universe is huge and overwhelming when first entering it: Someone is yabbering away in your ear on the right, an occasion hint pops up briefly in the center of the screen and stuff is just happening around all all the time - things to look at stuff you want to try clicking on.. so much going on -information overload.
So when Finally I work out how to read what my next mission is, Its simply says "Buy Assassin ROV" and "assistance disabled".
Why disable assistance at the time when we need it the most!?!?
Now its quite possible I did not hear that chattering person on my right give me some clues on this, and its possible a popup message gave me a clue on this.. but they were both long gone in the past and I have no way of reading past messages (no message log/history that I am aware of).
So when I really needed the help.. there was none.
It took me a lot of random button clicking to eventually realise the only solution was to search the Internet as I would never find the assistance I needed in-game.
This is a bit sad. It makes me feel like no one really tested the game as a new player, and the developers were too busy working on the amazing universe to worry about helping people enter it for the first time.
So my suggestion (sorry for that long pre-amble) is to have lots of "assistance enabled" information at all times in the mission page like:
"You need to find a trader who sells Assassins ROV Drones. You can do this by talking to a nearby ship (select it and press C)" etc etc...
A prime example of how to give people a helping hand are the Assassin Creed series: Constant ints in the top-right for the keys to press and on-screen remainders of what you need to do when you need to do it.
And for all those die-hard players who don't want this kind of hand-holding, simply provide a option in settings (I love options in settings!) to toggle it on/off.
Does this sound like a fair request and a useful way of helping newcomers get into the game without having to go lookup some random (reliable??) source on the internet?
Thanks for listening devs (if your listening) I really want to love this game but 10 hours in I've just learnt how to use my scanners.. and I'm starting to think its too much hard work.

For sure the whole tutorial is a bit loosely written, but gives overall a good start to the game. Lots of things are not covered, for example the cargo collecting stuff. We blend in some hints for the player, but they stay only for a few seconds and then dissapear. I thing there are plans to save these hints for the player to look them up again later.
