External Monitor Problem

Hi all,

I play on my Alienware X17R4 with a 1080P 19" TV attached by HDMI to the out socket of the laptop.

My problem is when I hit the play button in Steam, the game always crashes with one of those fatal error dialogs.

What I do is change the TV input to something else, hit play in steam using the laptop screen and then change the TV input back to the laptop again once the game is in the main menu. Works fine there after.

Is this a known problem? and is there something obvious I could do in a setting somewhere so I don't have this problem?

I've seen this happen too. I think it's something to do with video resolutions and multiple display cards as one time while trying to get it to work on my TV through HDMI, X:Rebirth showed a Video Resolution list that contained, among other unlikely resolutions, -1x-1, and 999999x999999.
