Over the last week or so I have been working on building the station in Devries for the plot. This morning I found the final Reinforced Metal Plating that I needed (Needed about 500ish). My station was still in Stage 1 construction last I checked.
I captured the ships, landed on them and got them to jump back to the construction ship. As I entered the zone where the station was being built I got a message from the architect saying the station was finished. I was told to hire a manager. I couldn't understand how the station could finish without the Reinforced Metal plates but needless to say I was pretty excited...
... Then I looked at the station.
It was clearly not finished. Large pieces of it were unjoined. A sign sat attached to nothing.
Whats worse, the architect told me in the construction plan that she had finished both Stage 1 & 2. I had no option to begin Stage 2 construction (including the URV Wharf which I understand is required to progress the plot)
I figured that maybe I could just accept that the station was broken and continue with the plot. The problem was the plot gave no indication of the next objective. I found on this forum a post that said you needed to fly to the jump gate. I did that and found nothing.
So in summary here are the issues I saw;
1) The architect reported that she finished the station before I got to deliver materials required for the build.
2) The architect reported that she finished the station but clearly it wasn't finished. I never initiated Stage 2 construction, large portions of the station are unconnected.
3) After the station was done I got no direction on the next part of the plot. The Alliance mission has no objectives in my game currently. Suggested workarounds on this forum do not work in my game.
I am starting to worry. I have sunk 158 hours into this game. I feel very concerned that restarting is my only option if I want to play Campaign mode.
What should I do? Is there any way to salvage this?

1. by editing savegame (there is simple marked build and un build modules,
bug there is catch - adding working factory is complicated - more simple to force architect to build it (simple drop resource requirements), lost modules from (previous) other stages could be simple marked as "" instead of unbuild.
2. by reloading(before first bug appear) and using very precise order for building extensions:
0. make sure that architect is disallowed to trade with npc
1. order extention out of zone(plot architect is not accessible out of zone, so you need to enter there and order, if order failed, leave zone, take any ship you can move with you, reenter and try again), but don't leave zone after part of resources was supplied.
2. enter inzone fly to constrionction ship to update trade order
3. leave zone and make sure extention order is not confused
(this and next one steps may be skipped(you can be inzone), but last primary ware should be supplied FULLY as one shipment)
4. supply all wares while off zone, do not enter in zone
(due to bug building will not start)
5. enter in zone and be there while module would not be completed,
do not supply any new appeared requirement for resources(that a bug which triggers rebuild section if you supply them).
DO not save/load while all of these is processed.
(~1hour).
that's only known for me way how workaround without save editing all bugs (mostly races) associated with station building.
there is several different bugs, some of them probably linked to saving game/leaving zone, which leads to losing already build modules, rebuilding already build modules, switching to incorrect building extention.

if you go though editing - you better mark as unbuild all of those associated with factory which are NOT in production module list (i.e. not seen as working factory though property menu), this will give architect option to build it, if factory is working, it is simpler to mark components as build(but I afraid that's just visibility, and marks for architect).

Thanks heaps DMK for making some suggestions.
I have a save from 13th December just before I gave the order to build my station. So I actually can choose to do either 1 or 2. I get the impression the its best to try 1 first as 2 is going to take a long time since I would have to gather all the resources again. (I would also lose a ton of progress)
I will give this stuff a try. I really love this game and I want to make this work. Its obvious I enjoy playing it because I put up with bugs that many would just give up on!
If any moderators / developers are reading this post. I would really appreciate it if you could let me know if this is something you are aware of and whether I can provide you with any more information to try to hunt down this bug. It sounds like it effecting the majority of people who get to this point of the game.

i.e. to force architect rebuild station better mark unbuild those modules which are actually absent (And some more to fully cover stage) and then architect should allow to build this stage again, and than you could edit to 0 requirement resources, as all of this is bug workaround.
in any way to get normal plot progress I think architect should normally build (extend) Urv Wharf (you could cheat with resources though).
now that factory is useless in production sense(wrong production type).
but other part of factory is usefull (silicon wafers and refined metals)
