Joystick! Joystick! Halleleuiah!
JOYSTICK!
Ahh, I just felt the need to say that word for some strange reason ...
"All I did was say 'Jehovah'"
-- Monty Python, _Life of Brian_
Oh, yeah, in keeping with EgoSoft's sense of humor:
"What? You mean I just paid $200 for a SpaceMaster Pro Mk VII Force-Feedback Spacebar and it won't fire my guns in X2? WTF?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Lament of the mouse.*
Click, ignition, my motors fire
Excitement can't get any higher
A blip on my radar
Enemy ship not far
I reach for my mouse
And my double grouse
Click on lasers
Click on phasers
Enemies in sight
The mouse is right ?
My com speaker crackles
The enemy speaks
Listen up mouse pilot
My ship is controlled by stick
I also have all round vision
You just heard your last click.
I have clicked and clicked
And still get licked
These joystick pilots
Just cant be tricked
Well you know what they say
Down the old Milky Way
If you want to survive
Even stay alive
Forget the click
And buy a stick !

To be fair to the Reactor guys, Aye Capn's first post there was more or less along the lines of "this game is gonna suck because it has no joystick support", and I imagine they're getting quite sick of those by now. How would you feel about a newbie who came onto this forum to say that X2 sucked because it didn't have full-size systems, or something like that?SteveMill wrote:Another refugee fleeing the base tyranny of the Reactor Forum. I'd defend his right to say whatever he wanted. That's what freedom of speech is all about. I'd also agree with him about the full sized systems.pjknibbs wrote:To be fair to the Reactor guys, Aye Capn's first post there was more or less along the lines of "this game is gonna suck because it has no joystick support", and I imagine they're getting quite sick of those by now. You wait and hear what I have to say if X2 is a bug-ridden, dumb AI initial release.

Good point, all the more reason for us to be tolerant and open not defensive, and reason for Egosoft to get the release right first time.robroy wrote:A blessing in disguise ? perhaps the more lancer chase away new players (especially j/stick pilots) X2 might benefit with a bigger fanbase, are they doing us a favour ? i think so

Freelancer Brought Me Here
FL's lack of joystick support and in particular the way that lack of support is condescendingly marketed as an advantage had the tandem effect of bringing me here.
I never did get a straight answer to the question, "Why can't we have a joystick option?" which is all I really wanted. The "official" answer is, "The designers didn't want to require a joystick."
The obvious follow-up question is, "But if it were optional wouldn't that mean it isn't required?"
The answer to that question is, "The designers didn't want to require a joystick."
Nonplussed by the obvious discombobulation experienced by those answering the question, one naturally -- but futilely -- hopes that asking the same question again might eventually wear down that hippocanthic barrier in their brains that causes them to ignore the difference between "required" and "optional", and so one feels compelled to ask the question again: "But if it were optional wouldn't that mean it isn't required?"
Answer: Locked thread.
It is condescending for such an honest question to be dealt with so duplicitously. It's reminiscent of Dilbert's pointy-haired boss.
(Look at that from a distance and the question marks look like pointy hair)
It was that attitude that sent me here. Without FL and their anachronistically Orwellian behavior I wouldn't have given X2 a second look. I guess you could say I got lucky.

Having read the most recent post's concerning the lack of joystick support in Freelancer I've come to these conclusions (my own personal opinion btw

Sure...I might buy the game....but only after buying X2.
It also depends whether Freelancer is released before X2, the current flavour I get is that Freelancer is going to be released before X2.
So?....do I spend my credits on Freelancer?
Depends on the price, and whether I've got the money to gamble on a game that I might not 'get on' with.
Having obviously played X i'm biased I suppose in that I will most definately buy X2, and the question of whether I buy (at time of release) Freelancer is open at the moment.
The Freelancer forum (again IMO) is obviously geared to the game, I expect that, but, at the same time I get the feeling as i've said somewhere else on this forum that the developers are saying...."this is what WE think you need, and that's what you'll get".
I can understand the Forum mods getting sick and tired of answering the 'joystick question', the game (Freelancer) as I understand quite clearly will not support joystick....fine.....
That will be the main reason why I'll be hesitant in purchasing Freelancer when it is released. I will be looking at reviews, and where possible seeing what other people have to say AFTER the game has been released.
Also btw there are other lesser reasons why I'm hesitant in buying Freelancer when it's initially released.
Point regarding purchase...
X2....already one copy sold....

Freelancer....

I think, (if anybody is browsing this forum and is also an 'official' from the Freelancer forum) my above post shows 'some' of the views that are thought about as regards purchasing Freelancer.
I would have liked to have posted on the Freelancer forum but there seems to be confusion as to what is accepted text/topics and what is not,(in my own opinion anyway) so i've posted onto this forum where I feel more at ease in discussing this topic.
