OK, here's an idea whos time has come. The freighters we constantly are chasing have antimatter engines, and jump drives. We want them for the goods they carry and the JD to get us back faster with it. BUT...the computer decides when the JD is damaged and destroyed, so very,very often it allows us to keep turrets,engines at least one...and shields and takes away the JD. If this were a more realistic game any ship with an active engine could move...not fast maybe but still get out of harms way. Setting a captain on such a ship would give it a chance, no matter how little, to make it home. The Skunk has no JD we use highways, freighters cant so even more chance they wont survive, flying 'across country' from area to area. But they should have the chance.

I'm getting tired of boarding a ship or two or three and finding the game in its infinite wisdom (sarcasm) decides that with 80% hull and half the engines and turrets working, it cant move...at all...BS. We need someone to mod this in, any ship with an active engine can move, even if you get 20mps for each engine, its better than a guaranteed sure thing sitting there waiting for a fighter wing or destroyer to come by. :roll:

I'm pretty sure a ship can move once one of it's engines is at 1% minimum.

Just give them the order to move to another zone inside the same sector (take me too...) once 1 engine is operational. Dock/undock and it will go as fast as it can. It's important to give the order once the first engine is repaired so the ship can get out of any station geometry that's blocking it's way to boost out.

That's how I saved some of my freighters from PMC patrol Taranises.

Hmm, your right, with one good engine you can fly around Albion without too much trouble. But the lack of detailed commands mean we cant order it through the Albion gate, even though it needs no JD to get through it. Any ship can enter there, without a JD but there's no way to order one to remotely. They freeze up in the gate sector and sit there, they accept the order its in the ships details, but they never go through.If we were flying them we;'d know that and use it, but since everything is remote now, we can only try with what we have, so now that I know they fly, what good is it I have a full sized miner and a Rehanas in Albion loaded full of materials that I cant get through the gate.

I tried ordering it to de free, that didn't work, I tried 'follow me' and went through, nope again, and then went and chose a spot and called and ordered the miner to 'gather materials here' and he said he would...but never moved.Its the little things like this that get to me about this game. :roll:

Before they go through the gate, they check for jumping to the destination. If it has no jump drive repaired it wont go i suspect, I also know that if it does not have enough fuel for a single jump it sits there for 10 minutes before it makes its run for the gate.

So, I'm back to seeing if I can find ships that both have what I need and have a good JD after boarding, so far today, 4 out of 4 misses.The turrets get repaired faster than the JD now, never did before. Now the turrets get done first then the engines then maybe the hull..the JD never gets repaired and you cant board without doing it, even hacking the ship when I order boarding, it targets the JD to be destroyed first.

Will consider capping little freighters with pilots and no JD to mess with, its a slow process but not impossible. :wink:

There is another way, if you have a working ship, just a ship and you can get it into and out of DeVries. Then take it to to Shipyard and equip it with Surface Miners.

Find ships you need stuff from, hack them with a trojan drone...then use the Cargo Collection mode for the scanner. Just wait till your ship is idling around you, or else the drones will go a little odd.

someone else said surface miners too, but they said only mk 2 versions, is that true? Also would have to be a what? Bulk ship to gather cargo or a container ship? Don't you just love the technicalities in this game? Going to watch for an answer not buying mk 2 miners unless I need to, ty. :wink:
