"error opening video" and TC closes

Post by steinc1966 »

I am getting the "Error opening video check your display settings" message every time I launch TC, After looking around the forum it seems that it may be related to my video cards. I have a MSI GT70 with the intel HD 4000, and a Geforce GTX670. The launcher only recognizes the intel chipset. I went into control panel and told it to run x3tc.exe with the GTX but the intel is still the only one listed in the launcher. Anyone have an idea on how to get around this problem?

Also I did run dxdiag and all tabs had "No Issue Found"
OS is windows 8 (COMPLETE CRAP)
Tried compatability mode XP SP2 and had the same error.
Steam version of the game.

Thanks, Charles

It may be that the instruction is not fully registered so try setting it up in the Nvidia card control panel again. It may also need setting up in Win8 and maybe Device Manager too otherwise you might not get as far as the Nividia Control Panel commands actually running.

Here is some advice I found:

1.In Device Manager, make sure your Intel Graphics Chipset is enabled, and installed.
2.Make sure your Nvidia Graphics GPU is enabled and installed, also with the latest driver.
3.Right click on your desktop, and press on Nvidia Control panel "!YOU CANNOT DO THIS IN NVIDIA GeForce Experience!"
4.There will be a Manage 3D settings and Set PhysX Configuration.
5.In Manage 3D settings make sure "Select the preferred Graphics processor for this program" is set on High-performance NVIDIA Processor.
6.In Set PhysX Configuration make sure "Select a PhysX processer" is set on your GeForce GT//GTX graphics GPU

If that does not help then a possible workaround to get you further into the game. Add - skipintro to the shortcut properties so that the target of the shortcut looks like this: ...\Program Files (x86)\EGOSOFT\X3 Terran Conflict\X3TC.exe" -skipintro
