Do engineers/defense officers do anything

I've caught my cargo ships being attached by PMC ships a lot. They never fire back, despite being manned by a defense officer and my having bought turrets when I got the ship.

My engineer, who is also on my ships doesn't seem to be repairing things.


Can I repair my cargo ships?

today I found my bulk freighter being attached by PMC fighters. It was at 11% hull and was not fighting back. I gave it a trade order, figuring it was just following me around like a puppy. It then proceeded to just blink out (disappear completely) and when I went to look at my property list, it said that my bulk freighter was somewhere in open space.

basicly, Defense officer must use turret and drones ( if you have ) to defend the ship, and engineer have to repair components ( about hull i'm not sure )

many ppl said the is not working, and some ppl said that is working so ... i don't really know, about repair your hull, u have to guide your shit near a shipyard, then dock, find the ship dealer, and ask for repair

They do for awhile, but it then just stops working. It is very frustrating!

Supposedly the script isn't working properly, some people in the modding forum have fixed it though.

Works out pretty good, had one of my freighters help deal to plutarch ships.

The only way to know if engineers in general are working is get into a fight yourself. If you hear...engine is damaged...engine is repaired...then their working.I have the hull engineer .60 installed with a fix up patch for when they stop working...it gets complicated the way they figure things out but they can be forced to repair the ship this way, but in vanilla game...I think engineers only repair the systems, like guns and engines not the hull, unless you have lots of drones on board, but they are expensive, and slow.
