Can't save game 1.18

Post by cecil101 »

I ran into this issue before 1.16... Then it was fine for 1.16 and 1.17... then for 1.18 I get "saved dump errors" and "saved failed" messages.. Any thoughts or fixes? Is any anyone having these problems?

Let's hope this one gets resolved fast. Anyone else out there? Maybe a fix?

I started getting save fails all of a sudden after some 10 hours of playing 1.18 without having a single save hiccup, it only says that the save has failed (doesn't crash, keeps going like nothing is wrong) and only happens in DeVries around the shipyard and farm so far...

Have any of you provided crash dumps, either here or in the public beta forum?

In the interest of not making another thread...

Anyone find a fix for the crash when saving thing?

I think I may have found a possible reason for why my game crashes on saves... I had just upgraded my ram to 4 gb on 32 bit vista witch only recognized 3,330mb of it... So I did a BCDEdit /set PAE ForceEnable (to no effect and yes I have a 64 capable processor).

After I installed the ram I played and had fun... A day or 2 later I got around to doing the BCDedit... After I enabled it, I was plagued with save crashes and even random ones... Then a few days after beating my head against the wall wondering what the hell happened... I disabled the BCDedit and poof... No crashes yet...

Can anyone give any insight (because I'm not too savvy with computers) on how or why this could effect the crashes when saving games?

Tips for other problems wrote:- We read reports of people who can not save: This is usually caused by running the game on 32bit OS. Note that running X Rebirth on a 32bit Windows version is not supported.

That information would have been a really useful to have provided from the start. This is precisely the reason why we ask everyone to provide a DXDiag report in the sticky threads at the top of the forum; it saves a lot of wasted time for everyone.

In your case the answer is very simple: 32-bit versions of Windows do not meet the minimum requirements for the game and are not supported. Crashes during saving in this scenario are quite common and are typically caused by the game running out of memory.

And yes, for the benefit of anyone reading this who is not running a 32-bit OS, we are aware of other cases of crashes during saving too, but they are not relevant in this context.

Edit: Beaten by Terre while I was doing something else.

Just to let people know... My game runs fairly smooth. It was interesting to see that trying to force my computer to recognize a full 4gb of memory actually caused problems.

Thank you for your responses.

I wonder how much time would be saved by simple

if %PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE% != "AMD64" throw new NotSupportedException;

I know there are bigger issues... but still.

Not sure if this is even related but today I played for a couple hours and when I left and came back, it had refused at least 2 auto saves. The spot where I came back to was a manual save I did before I started this morning. This is twice the auto saves haven't taken or been accepted so now I manually save every few jobs, no matter what.
