Have you destroyed the engines?

Sometimes I just bump the target ship with my ship, so the marines can land :-) And make sure that engines are gone. Engineers can repair them.

Above or in front of the ship seems to work best for Marine release. In front can be done by firing a Sunstalker at the last engine.

If all else fails, bump the boarding pods that aren't green triangles yet.

I hadn't considered bumping the target ship. I'm off to try that now.

Yeah i tried everything.. i reload 4 or 5 times. I've tried literally spamming both engines nonstop with my repeater to make sure it never gains even 1 m/s velocity, the ship was literally stationary for at least 5 minutes. Then I've tried go boost real fast right after killing the engines so they can drop from the top front of the freighter, same thing, and i tried to do it from below around the center as well, because sometimes they stick to the insides of the plating and stuff. Its as if the ship had an invisible bubble around it, whichever angle i drop them from they just cant get it. This one ship just refuses to get boarded. Not having any problems with other ships before or after this one o_o Unfortunately this was the only one that had a good variety of the turrets i need.

I do know workaround if you need ship for sale, but that's not your case (you can kill drone hangar, engines, turrets and leave zone - after that all marines land on board and take the ship)

in your case I think you should reload and drop marines other way.
each pod it pushes ship from itself, so it is enough to make sure that pods all around ship (which too requires turrets to be killed, or you lose some of your troops).
P.S. there was reports that in 1.17 engineers broken again. (they worked from 1.14 to 1.16).

I think sometimes the pods try to attach to a certain point of the ship but end up getting stuck on the ship's geometry along the way. I don't think it has to do with the ship's speed necessarily. Especially if I release a large number of marines, some will inevitably get stuck. Bumping the pods almost always works for me.

When you see a ship you want to cap blow up the jumpdrive BEFORE clicking board. This will stop it in it's tracks then proceed as usual.

Novadrones are OP get some and just send it towards the jumpdrive after that it's a win.

I did see how ship moves without engines because of pods (from them).
anyway if you fly around ship while dropping pods (you need begin to fly immediately after board+(jumpdrive+engines killed)) they have more surface to land and rarely will collide with each other.

i ended up waiting 20 minutes and eventually my marines reached the ship.. for some reason even though it had no engines, and i did not notice this, the ship was tipped on its back and somehow falling downwards (upwards for the ship, because its top was facing the opposite direction) into nothing, so it was moving.. its as if there was a gravitational pull nearby, but there is no such thing

If you kill the engines when its moving ship keep drifting, you might think its stood still if your close because you will drift with it and it seems as though its stood still. move away a bit after dropping pods and you will see freighter moving .

If you drop pods and then leave for a while, I thought the mini game kills the mission and you lose it?
