1.17 station building

Just got to the part where I must built my station.

I have a construction vessel with architect on board. I fly to a good spot, construction vessel is at 2km from that spot, so am I, I select "build", go through the menu, and the architect says "we can start building with what we have". I then click "build station" and the architect says "it helps if you let me get there to do the building".

What am I doing wrong?

I think my trader who was parked in the neighborhood was in the way... when I ordered him to leave it started building.
