I have repurchased the X3 TC and AP in order to play and get fixes.
I am confused by the interaction of the steam overlay with these games. However the game A P plays really well. My issues are that the shift tab does not work at all. I have changed the boost key so not to conflict but no success. Command tab briefly shoots and then exits to Steam overlay/app selection
I am running a mac mini with 10.8.5.
the other issue is the achievements are not recognised. I have saved stats and downloaded but that merely goes to egosoft not steam?
help what am i doing wrong? the games seem to function well the steam bit doesn’t add any value.
how do I run the games outside of the steam overlay?
X3 AP steam version

Ok.
If you register your game into your forum profile, you will gain access to the Tech Support forum, for better support than just the advice that we can provide.
You can disable the Steam overlay (and it is indeed Shift-Tab) from within Steam. Click Start -> All Programs -> and you should have a Steam icon for just starting the Steam client without starting any games. Then once that is started, in the upper left corner, from the menu, click Steam -> Settings. Switch over to the "In Game" tab and disable the "Steam Community Ingame" setting, then click OK.
You can also change your other Steam preferences while you're in the Steam client, if you want, such as whether you appear as online or offline, friends list, etc.
In any case, disabling the Steam Community Ingame will disable shift-TAB so that you can use it in the game without that overlay appearing.
As far as Achievements, you must be logged into Steam and Online for achievements to be recorded. So when you click the X3TC or X3AP icons, you should see "Connecting to Steam..." first, before your game starts. Make sure that the Steam client is not set to "offline" mode, and that you have access to the internet so that it can send over the Achievement information as you play.
Also, your game cannot be **modified**. So if you're running a mod, or if you've used a cheat code, achievements are disabled. You can check to see if your game is **modified** by starting the game, loading your last save, and then opening the Character Info Sheet. From the in-game toolbar on the left, click on the person icon at the top, then click on My Pilot Status, and scroll all the way to the bottom. It will say "**modified**" at the bottom, under all your stats, if the game is considered modified.
