Having problems with this freighter too. I put some buying orders in its to do list. But instead of finishing these commands it did followed me out on patrol instead of finishing this and asking for next or waiting for next. Now it is hanging around in a sector I went through and doing nothing and the orders aren't done. So money is gone, goods aren't picked up and freighter floats around.

In my eyes this is the logical approach in orders. First finish commands and then go for next or ask for next.
