Low end hardware and still decent performance

Post by ybeline »

Hello,

Just sharing FPS performance with old and low end hardware.

Low end hardware
  • C2D E8500 at 3,2GHz (2008's)
    HD4870 512Mo at 790MHz / 1050MHz (2008's) (Catalyst 13.9)
    4Go DDR2
    Windows 7 64 bits
Settings
  • Catalyst driver set to 'Max Performance'
    Windowed mode
    1024x768
    AA = 0 | Vsync = off | Shadows = off | SSAO = off
    LOD = 0 | View Distance = 0 | Effect Distance = 0 | Shader = Low
FPS performance
  • Empty space: 35 FPS
    Entering highways: 5-10 FPS (~2sec)
    Inside highways (with empty space around): 45 FPS
    Inside highways (with stations appearing): 2-5 FPS (~2sec)
    Inside highways (with stations around): 20 FPS
    Close to stations with dozens of ships firing: 15 FPS (but smooth and playable)
    Exiting cockpit (while close to stations): 25 FPS
    Back room of 'Albion Skunk' (while close to stations): 35 FPS
    Inside stations (looking outside): 30 FPS
    Inside stations (looking at NPCs): 20 FPS
    Entering cockpit (while close to stations): 20 FPS
Globally smooth and playable, except when stations-cities are loading and when entering highways.

Great game so far, keep going Egosoft! :)

Actually

a perfect 15 with zero "Stutters" and no drops any further? can be pretty decent in terms of playability in any game.. not perfect, and definitely not something you want to aim for? But playable at the very least...

Not saying you haven't, but alot of people here grew up with older games where lag was unavoidable. Playing age of empires at 5-10fps at best and I was still enjoying myself.. XR runs at near 25 for me, and its just perfect.

Love the game but even with a decent setup it's nearly unplayable at some places. And yet I've sunk 8 hours or so into it, even with this major problem. But it's a mixed bag atm for me, just waiting for fixes atm ^^

Considering I am below minimum requirements, 15 FPS steady and regular is indeed enough to enjoy the most intensive scenes.

But I won't lie to you: I am thinking about upgrading this old computer :)

Except when loading stations-cities and entering highways, there isn't any drop below 15 FPS.

I'm got around 15 fps 90% of the time for the hour and a half I played. I considered that unplayable. There's no way my eyes can perceive 15 fps as smooth unless I'm sitting still in space - and it gets all the worse when my eyes are trying to coordinate with my hands at such a low framerate during fast paced combat.

Around 25 fps is the lowest I could perceive as smooth (hardly a satisfying framerate, but playable - I'm currently playing State of Decay at around 25 fps).

Hello,

I've tested the game on another rig yesterday:
  • i5-3570
    GTX660
    8GB
It runned at around 30 FPS, all options maxed out (except AA that was fixed at x4): I have to admit that it is much better :-)
---> More confort
---> Better visuals

with the patchs fixing the bugs the performance of the game is getting better hope we soon get 60 fps on low end PCs

Specs:

AMD athlon x2 64 6000+ 3.00 ghz
geforce 9600 gt 512 mb
4gb ddr2 800mhz

i get around 30+ fps in not so crowded space in very populated around 10 fps maybe more didnt tested much

What i saw while testing this is that my processor dont load up 100% just 80% and go down to 52-53% while i read on forum what egosoft said that is a cpu demanding game.
