Zones/Loading Screen Clarification...?

Hey all,
So I just have something that I wanted to be clear about. With all of the X-Games, there were of course the Gates, which acted as loading screens between sectors. I know that the gates are still going to be in Rebirth (Albeit non-functional) but, I guess my question is, what is going to take its place?

Are there going to be loading screen-like transitions?

I believe Superhighways are going to be the equivalent of loading screens. Otherwise, shouldn't be any.

those things are real time, how are they loading screens?

64bit, multicore and large ram requirement point to real time background streaming being a likely possibility.

Equivalent of loading screens in that you can't do much else but wait for them to be over, they're the transition between large areas, etc...

Loading assets in real time isn't really anything new, nor something that must require high end computers. Old shooters with long winding hallways between sections of a map are an early example of some real-time loading as the hallways would give the system time to unload old assets and load new ones.

There are no loading screens once you're in-game. While you can't leave a superhighway, you still have control of your ship inside it and it's certainly not a loading screen, as you will see. Even gate transitions are pretty much seamless.

Nice - great work there!
My favourite memory of the X series was babysitting that TL across half the universe in XTension and finally arriving in Getsu Fune to be gifted the TL! I called her Big Bad Orca...

That is incredible! I love these games, but the gate thing was always something that I wasn't a huge fan of. Thanks for the info!

I would temper that with the entering / leaving cockpit sequence is very close to a loading screen, albeit quite a seamless one. My understanding is that the interior is not held in memory in flight. Is that fair CBJ?

You can see a short FPS stop when the player is entering a new zone, and when the stop ends, you suddenly see all the stations appear in front of you.
