The shipsize decreases when inside ?.
I've seen this in every video and it always seems odd to me that
the ship when viewed from outside, it quiet wide, mostly on the left side of the cockpit.
But whenever i see the ship flying from inside-view, it seems like the ship
isn't wider then the view of the cockpit. I've seen the ship been flown through narrow
corridors and walls of structures barely passing by the glasswindow of the bridge when
in "reality", the ship's left side should be stopping the ship from even entering that corridor.
Also, another thing that has me scared, is that it seems we will only be able to fly the ship, with cockput view,
not outside-view, and this imo is a huge turnoff.
There isn't that much important information in "cockpit" view that couldn't be relayed to an outside view.
All you need is shield, hull, speed, weaponpower, amo... all those are easily put on HUD.

Of all the things i've lost, i miss my mind the most.

That's really weak by EGOSOFT to remove the 3rd person viewoption from the game,DaddyMonster wrote:
EDIT: no 3rd person view on release is confirmed
and i'd love to hear a valid excuse why this decision was made.
No option for cameraangles = no movies no nothing...
Seriously EGOSOFT, why did you remove the options for varying cameras ?.

I think camera drones were mentioned - so, you can either pilot came drone yourself or launch it on autopilot and watch your ship on that screen in your cockpit.Dreez wrote:That's really weak by EGOSOFT to remove the 3rd person viewoption from the game,DaddyMonster wrote:

Even if there are no "camera" drones, there are spy drones that could be used for this.

Some people like a cockpit, some doesn't. "Make it optional" is not an option, CBJ had written a nice post about it somewhere here.
The Skunk is not that big and i can assure you, that it does not fit in spaces that are not as wide as the skunk. I think you underestimate how huge everything is and how big even the smallest gaps are.

You have misunderstood what people talk about, we don't talk about the cockpit width compare to the ship width, in fact people talk about the fact that from the cockpit we can flight through space that look smaller than the ship width, like if in cockpit view the ship become smaller.Bobucles wrote:Maybe it's because the left side of the Skunk is dedicated weapon/shield space? There's not much room for people.
Same, but for me the inside part are too small, a ship like the Normandy even if he is longer have several floor, a 2 floor Skunk would have been better, more space = more things to put inside, more crew, more RP, better walk around and way more...outlawgb wrote:i like the look of the ship myself
And regarding that the ship is something like 40m long, with his height i'm sure he can be a tween floor ship for a really small height change...
Or maybe with the cargo space compression technology have a ship bigger inside (The Doctor will really like it)
I wish some modders will create a ship bigger inside to have more living space !!!
I agree but it is cause (like almost every game) scale is not 1:1 and like every game where we are inside a cockpit and where we evolving inside giant environment, everything look small and feel smaller than how they really are, it is sad for me, but maybe if we can reduce the FOV with games options or tweaking files (mainly if we can freelook in the cockpit) we will be able to fix it ourself for those like me who are easily disoriented by a false scale, the difference between first person view when we walk around in station or in our ship and first person view in cockpit are huge...linolafett wrote:Some people like a cockpit, some doesn't. That why we underestimate how huge things are, like playing a RTS game or Sim City or aircraft sims where everything are (in fact look) small and compare it with Arma 3 or Metro Last Light or other FPS like this where the scale is closer of human eyes real life scale !

Skunk is not a large vessel.
And, think a little bit, its a spaceship for the sake of holy god, not a house! More than 90% of the ship mass should be taken by engines, generators, technic etc.
And by the way, I totally love its appearence. A very nice ship IMO. I have no problem with sticking with only one ship, if its this one.
And that ladder, I guess that its unusable.
I think that it has been said somewhere clearly that Skunk will have no turrets, just frontal hardpoints and missile launching pods.
And for that 3rd person view... Personally, Iam glad that they removed it. I like games to be deep and immersing, and bird perspective is totally not that. You can still take a drone and use it to have a look.

You have probably miss the part of the trailer where it is said : A flying fortress and a home.Earth ultimatum IV. wrote:Skunk is not a large vessel.

It is part of the second sentence of the trailer, after all a submarine is really small and it is a ship where people live inside for long time.
Same but i'm sure some mods will give us a better ship even if this one is already nice !Earth ultimatum IV. wrote:And by the way, I totally love its appearence. A very nice ship IMO. I have no problem with sticking with only one ship, if its this one.
It is sad that we don't have any turret, i love turret, see them in action or control them...And in X3 the Albion Pride have turrets...Earth ultimatum IV. wrote:And that ladder, I guess that its unusable.

With capital ship control and turrets control/in player ship we loose too much nice and fun feature.
That what YOU think, a lot of people really like for a lot of reason 3rd person view, this is not cause their is a feature that can brake your immersion that you are forced to use it, no one will force you to using it, i don't see why people that like it can't have it cause people that can simply don't use it don't want it...Earth ultimatum IV. wrote:And for that 3rd person view... The scale you see outside of your cockpit and what is inside is in exactly the same scalesceme. There is a real Skunk in which you are sitting, not just a floating empty in space with a cockpit attached.
Afaik the FOV is at 75° so its somewhat like you can see with your own eyes. You will probably not be able to change it, because you wouldnt be able to read the displays.

According to this poll it's not exactly a "lot" in proportional terms.Demongornot wrote:That what YOU think, a lot of people really like for a lot of reason 3rd person view...
And once again we see the fallacy that an optional feature has no effect on people who don't want to use it. See this post (amongst others) for the explanation.Demongornot wrote:...this is not cause their is a feature that can brake your immersion that you are forced to use it, no one will force you to using it, i don't see why people that like it can't have it cause people that can simply don't use it don't want it...

Yes but it still look small, for a game like this, this is not a problem, in can a bit break a little immersion sometime but nothing that cause huge issue (unlike aircraft simulators).linolafett wrote:The scale you see outside of your cockpit and what is inside is in exactly the same scalesceme. When looking at the Controls video for example, when the ship shoot traffic ship at close range, they don't look at all like a ship able to carry someone, they look like a small drone not bigger than a person...
That exactly why when in the scale video the ship flight through things it look like it is really tight and that it is smaller than the ship width...
I agree with your post, most of the things can't be make at optional, mainly when a mods can probably do it, but for things like external view i can't agree, everything is already here for this, 3D model of the ship and existing X3 TC/AP external cam proof that you mastering this.CBJ wrote:According to this poll it's not exactly a "lot" in proportional terms.Demongornot wrote:That what YOU think, a lot of people really like for a lot of reason 3rd person view...
In fact i think people vote for default view, not for the only one that must be implemented, i prefer first person view as a default and if their is a choice between first and third person view i will choose first of course, but it don't mean that i don't want to see the first person view
And once again we see the fallacy that an optional feature has no effect on people who don't want to use it. This is not an issue to make it optional or not, this is just a button that we can press or not, like the boost drive, maybe few people will not like it and never use it, other will use mods for make it unlimited or consume less energy...
Or like the ejection feature for X3, some people think : "I my ship fall, i fall with him, i'm a true captain i die with my crew and my ship." while other think : i don't care about this ship, he is not good enough for survive to this fight, so i will just take another ship i have", and their is no need to make ejection feature optional or not...
But anyway this is just an example and i have no problem with this, even if with drone if their is always a "drone video camera interface look" and some 3D part of the drone visible, it will not be good at all for video or screenshots, an "observation drone" with clear camera and no 3D part will be needed...
And anyway based on Reddit answer it will maybe be an external view in the future...
Anyway i have no problems with "first person view only" mainly with walk around and drone now !

A button to show an external view wouldn't fall into this category, no, but that's not what the OP was asking for.Demongornot wrote:This is not an issue to make it optional or not, this is just a button that we can press or not
Having two different HUD modes, one for inside the cockpit and one for external view, is precisely the scenario that my linked post was about. It must be so nice to be able to say how easy it would be to do something without actually having to follow that statement through.Dreez wrote:There isn't that much important information in "cockpit" view that couldn't be relayed to an outside view.
