Universe empty

Post by lordpeanuts »

Recently bought X3 Albion Prelude for MAC. All seems to work normal but the X3 universe chart is empty. Wat to do for showing all the sectors of the universe?
Thanks for helping me out.
kind regards,

No bug.

Universe map only displays sectors that you have discovered / visited. Get out there and start exploring!

It is like the Fog of War in strategy games.
Once one explores, it opens up.
Place nav sats if you have credits to give real time intel on what is happening in the sectors discovered.

Thanks for the hints. I tried it and by doing so I experienced a few difficulties detecting all the stations and gates in some foggy sectors. Is there a way to detect them?
Many thanks for the help.

You need Triplex Scanner, usually sold at Military Docks, it gives your ship sensors a bigger range. Then you need to fly around with it, to discover stations by getting in range of them.

If you buy a fast M5 scout ship from one of the shipyards, then go to the Teladi areas and buy Explorer Software from their equipment docks, and then you install Triplex Scanner on this M5 scout, you can order it to fly through gates and map sectors for you. It doesn't care about the fog, it flies around and around in expanding circles to discover everything.

Just keep in mind that you can order your extra ships to do stuff, IF they have the proper software extensions installed from equipment docks.

You can have automated traders on TS transport ships if you install the trade software mark 1, 2, and 3, you can have them explore with the explorer software, you can have them mine or collect rocks with Ore Collector, etc. For combat tasks, you can have them patrol sectors, defend stations or locations, etc, if you have the proper combat software, special software, patrol software, etc.

To get access to all the upgrades you need standings, and to get standings you need to do missions. Also the economy will likely crash if you don't help it out with traders and your own factories, because it's set up to need you (that way you have something to do).

So the idea is to build a few fleets. A bunch of TS transports to do trading or supply your factories, a bunch of combat ships, from M5 scouts to M3 fighters to M6 and M7 capital ships for defense or killing whatever you need killed, and a few specialized ships, TP to transport passengers, TL to deploy factories, etc.
