bonus pack install problems.... Identified as AV issue.

Post by Gyrehawk »

win 8, quad core, steam verskion of x3AP

I dl'd the bonus pack 5.1.0.0 and tried to install it. it went a little was then said it had an error "could not access source file: access denied". In the mean time it also, or something did, wiped out my #1 save slot. I have to use 2-xx. Mu autosave is turned on and it says saving every time I dock but no files are present in the 3 s ave slots. Whew! I really, really don't want to wipe out my game if I don't have to. I am quite a way along with 10 mil and two stations with 4 big traders.

If anyone can help me with this I would really appreciate it.

edit: i did fine the file !init.p.ugin.bonus.steam/steamapps/common/x3teranconflict/addon/scripts

left it till i hear from you

The BP should not directly affect your saves which are in Your Documents and nowhere near the game or BP files themselves in Program files or wherever Steam is.

However, because the BP changes how your game plays and what scripts are running in it, it backs-up a copy of all your previous scripts etc into a separate folder once the BP is installed. This should not affect the saves. This is so that if you ever uninstall the BP, you can go back to your non-BP scripts and carry on from there. Ideally you should have manually backed up your saves before installing the BP as the saves made with the BP will not work if the BP is uninstalled.

Two things are possible; first the incomplete BP installation process might have meant that the backup occurred in the wrong place or was left incomplete and that is messing thing up. The other is that somehow your saves are now left pointed to the wrong folder or location.

I would do the following. Uninstall the BP using its uninstaller. Download the BP again from scratch and install it. Note that the X3AP BP 5.1.0 is installed into the addon folder and not into the X3TC main folder.

There are other things we can try if that does not work out, such as searching your system for the missing save filenames. Let us know how you get on.

One other thing. If there is a save in the folder called x99.sav then manually rename that to x99.bak and let us know about it.

1. the bonus pack never did install. see above. i keep getting sourse file refuses access. I still have the vanilla steam x3ap game.

2. i found x99.sav in Mydocuments/egosoft/xeap/save and frenamed it x99.bak.

edit: I tried to install again after changing x99 file and still got source denies access..access denied.

It sounds like some of your gamefiles and saves are marked read-only. See this FAQ.

An alternative is that your AV/Firewall or other protection applications are interfering in the save process. See this thread.
