Crashing on Startup - fixed by reinstalling Steam

Post by Rydus »

Hi, was playing the game, when my one year old daughter thought it would be fun to press my pc's restart button. Now when I start it through steam its doesn't even get into the pregame menu. Doesn't show a error message or anything, windows just says its stopped working.

Normally I'd ask for more information, specifically the information requested in the very first thread in this forum, but I think it's fairly clear from your report that something has got corrupted by the sudden restart. I suggest you start by running Steam's file verification, by right-clicking on the game in the Steam client and choosing Properties, Local Files, Verify Integrity of Game Cache. That should sort out any game-specific corruption. It won't, however, solve any corruption relating to other parts of your system. It's possible, for example, that the restart could have corrupted a driver or other Windows component.

Hi,

Go to the command line box and type in sfc /scannow that will check and repair any corrupted windows files.

@ ranger00: Unless you also have daughter who pressed your computer's restart button mid-game then I suggest that you start your own new thread in Tech Sp after reading the first Announcement on this forum. Then we can probably give you some more meaningful assistance.

Same here, since this afternoon, i can't play either TC or AP.

I have the beta version of steam and this morning there was an update on steam.

But I can play other game on steam.

When I start the game, I can't go to the launcher screen.

@ Magelan55: Same advice as to ranger00 although use of a Beta version of Steam doesn't sound like a good basis for further investigation of your system. Can you reproduce the issue on normal Steam?

It's ok now, seems there was a problem between X3 and the beta version of steam.

@ Magelan55: Please report the Steam Beta issue with X3 back to Valve. Thanks.
