The Khaak and modified universes

I just spent a little time in the Galaxy Editor running the x2_universe map (unpacked the x2_universe.pck file I found in the maps folder after using StoneD's tool to unpack the game files), and since I have not gotten very far in the game yet (got caught up in Star Wars Galaxies after a little break :)) and do not really care all that much about the plot - I am considering starting a game in a custom galaxy (just the standard X2 universe really - but I plan on making changes to a few sectors).

(Minor plot spoilers below)

One question though - for now at least. Cruising around the universe in the galaxy editor with my Nova's fancy unlimited energy jump drive I can see that pirates, the xenon and pretty much everything else seem to be where it is supposed to be and operating as expected. I wonder about the Khaak though - will they show up with random spawns like they do in a normal game, or are they only activated after the President's End incident (brought on by plot, two factories or combat) which will of course not occour in a custom galaxy game?
If they will not show up I guess I can find a few scripts out there to activate them - I do need an occasional challenge afterall. Or perhaps I should consider turning half of argon space over to the xenon. :twisted:
