Anyone actually imported a ship yet?
Just curious if any of the MAX using type people have managed to make their own ship yet?

If I have enough hours in my day I will
I imported someone else's made 3D model into X2 without problems (without using 3DMax I might add). I also managed do import older XTension models into the game and fire their guns. It is a bit tricky as one has to associate an existing cockpit with the new models plus make more mods to the relevant files in the game about lasers, shields etc.

Nevertheless I am atm working on the Startrek Enterprise in 3DMax.
Cheers

Without max? How did you accomplish such a feat?Commander Jamieson wrote:If I have enough hours in my day I will![]()

As the XTension models are just bod files once converted from their pbd files, they are just text instruction files for the game. If opening a .bod file in XT (or even X2) with NotePad, you see what I mean. Then it is just a matter of adding on parts, adjusting coordinates, re sizing etc in NotePad.
The 3D model I received and used in some of the above web pages had been such a text instruction file, hence all I had to do was to create different new body files for the parts (as the 3D model was in 3 parts), adjust its relevant file where all parts are listed, import a X2 cockpit into the 3D bod file to operate it and to get it to fly plus other mods in the TShip file and hey presto, look mum, no hands (or rather no 3D Studio Max)
If you want to create your own model, of course you need 3DStudio Max for it.
