im not able to carry the keymap i have created with an older save game, with the new game i started :
i save the keymap as a profile with the old save game, but when i load the new save game and switch to that saved keymap, it is just the default keymap.
i completely replace egosoft folder in documents with the old profile, save games etc. i load the old save game, and the keymap is naturally the custom one i made. good. then i close the game, copy the files in 'profile' folder, paste it to the new save games i created, place the new set in the egosoft folder, launch the game.
after this, if i load an old save game that is lingering within the set, the keymap appears ok.
BUT, if i load a new save game, and switch to a profile i have carried over, regardless of everything i did, it just becomes default keymap.
what to do ?
Cant keep / move Keymap profile in between save games

So, talking about your current Egosoft folder in Documents and your current game, you have a file in 'Profiles' called 'Custom profile' and if you load an old save and select that profile for use it is fine. However, if you load a new save and select that same 'Custom Profile' then you stay on the default controls. Is that correct?
I do know that a profile created in X3TC is not 100% happy running in X3AP if that helps.

Ok, I just did a trial run in vanilla X3AP (now 3.0a). I started a completely new game and found I was still using the custom profile from my previous gameplay rather than the default settings. So far so good.
I landed at a station to do an autosave, quit and closed the game, started the game and loaded that single new game start and I was still in the custom profile settings. So it is working as intended for myself.
I guess that you need to be in the profile you want when you save for it to work that way when you reload. I think you must have saved when you were in the default settings - either that or you are somehow not selecting to use the Custom profile but to redefine it as the current settings (ie default).
I am a bit confused as to why you think you need to select a profile when playing at all. Mine just stays as at previous use unless I deliberately change it.
I think the answer is to customise your settings again, save the profile, and then play and save.

i had had attempted to modify a few keys when i was in default settings when i started the new game, and saved it as a custom profile.Alan Phipps wrote:I guess that you need to be in the profile you want when you save for it to work that way when you reload. they just switched to default when i started a new game.I am a bit confused as to why you think you need to select a profile when playing at all. Mine just stays as at previous use unless I deliberately change it.
if you mean i should customize a few keys in the old save game, and then save the profile, and then switch over to the new game, i did that, no dice.I think the answer is to customise your settings again, save the profile, and then play and save.

No, I meant customise the keys in the new game and then save the profile and then the game.
"they just switched to default when i started a new game." Mine didn't, how strange! I wonder if there is something in your new game that makes the old profile appear no longer valid - a bit like what happens in some cases with X3TC profiles used in X3AP. Don't forget that X3AP 3.0 profiles now include extra controller profile information.

that is huge customizing alan. if i do that, why should i need to switch the old profile over anyway.Alan Phipps wrote:No, I meant customise the keys in the new game and then save the profile and then the game.

Well you could try opening the old profile in NotePad (it is just a name and list of numbers), and then after making a new barebones custom one in the new game just paste your 'old' numbers over the top and into the new one and see if that works.
To be frank, I don't understand at all why your copy and paste, rename or menu selection of the profile files isn't working anyway. Good luck.
