game minimizing to desktop? - Possible temporary condition.

Post by stevee620 »

Hi all, i tried to put this in the tech support section, but apparently i don't have permission.
I've been playing terran conflict now for a few weeks, often i leave the game on screen while i'm docked, and doing something else away from the pc. But tonight the game has minimized to the tray (not crashed) 3 times for no apparent reason. Once docked and twice while floating in space. I generally play the game at some point every night, and its never happened before. Could anyone offer an possible explanation for this? Maybe its just a one-off, i don't know. I'll have to see the next few nights that i play.
Any advice much appreciated,
Stephen.

Edit: I am using xp service pack 3. Only mod is the cockpit one.

My specs are

Intel Core2 Duo cpu E6550 @ 2.33GHz(2CPUs)
4gb DDR2 Ram
Graphics card HD Radeon 6670 1gig
Direct X 9.0c
Windows xp 32bit home edition sp3

I doubt it's an issue with X3 itself, it's more likely that one of your background program keeps forcing the game to minimize.

And you can't post in the Tech Support section without verifying your game on your forum account. A sticky on this forum has more info on that.

do you come back & find your Start Menu up? If not some process is refocusing on the desktop.

Please register your game in your forum profile and then PM a moderator so they can move this topic to the tech support forum.

[EDIT] OK, now moving this to Tech Support for further discussion.

Check your various applications that auto-update when on-line after the system input has been idle for a while. You may have been getting one or more gradual updates that did not (all) complete and so update had to be restarted the next time the system input was idle for a while. There should be records in the application or system logs that might tie in updates or links to update sites at the times of the game being minimised.

You didn't actually say whether you were on-line or not, and whether your game was playing or paused while you were away and/or if it continued to play in the background while minimised (if playing and you have that option set).

Sanity check, you didn't change your screen saver settings recently did you?

Citrix Receiver did this for me in X3 TC and AP. Try exiting non-critical applications residing in your System Tray and test. Citrix probably isn't installed on many gaming PCs, but that's what it was in my case.

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I'm not sure if it was still "playing" while minimized. It did minimize while the game was running, not paused. I haven't changed my screen saver settings either. I tried it last night, and it ran without minimizing, hopefully it was just a one off, or a three off. But if it starts doing it again, i'll take your advice on board and let you know how i get on.

I blame a recent Steam Client update as it is the only change made to my computer in the past 2 weeks. I'm not doing anything different or running any different programs than I normally have in the past. I havn't installed anything in the past month. The only change was the Steam Client Update.
