Weapons disappear

Post by DaveH1947 »

Weapons disappear for some reason, sometimes right when I'm installing them. Very frustrating losing a lot of battles please help. For instance if I'm in a battle and my Osaka is losing to about two or three fighters I check my weapons and there's only one Gun per turret so I reload and the same thing happens not right away but maybe in the next battle. Please tell me what I can do to fix that.

Is your game modified at all? And do the weapons really disappear or are they just moved to your cargo?

If this is a captured ship then it probably has ship and turret scripts (including weapon swapping) from its previous life still running on it and its turrets. Give the ship and then all its turrets the command 'none' which clears most running scripts. Now set it up as you wish and it should behave itself.

Yes I have the X-tra ship MOD however it was doing that before I installed it. I will try the "None" command

No still doing it. When I load one turret and then go to the next one the turret I just loaded has no weppons. When the ship is docked it tends to hold the weppons when undocked for a while but then does the same thing again

Did you issue the none command to the turrets?

Are you sure you don't have MARS or another weapon-swap script installed? Those exhibit the '1 weapon per turret until needed to choose the best weapons and fight' behaviour you describe.

By the way and not relevant to this thread, you can update that HD Audio sound driver at the RealTek update site. Also, you do know that you have the 'bad boys with X3' ie Ffdshow, Nero and Cyberlink codecs?

No I don't have either of those installed but I just tried both "none" commands then loaded all wepons and they stayed there just fine but when I clicked on missle defence and checked, half my turrets where empty, it's not a captured ship either. Any other suggestions, I'm just patiently waiting for Rebirth

If it is not a captured ship then none of that should be happening in a Player ship. How did you get it, ie bought from a Shipyard, second hand sale, or cheated/spawned in? It sounds like a rogue ship for whatever reason and you may have to sell it and buy another one to cut your losses and get one that works.

Also have you recently updated your game from an older version to a newer one, or at least just before you noticed this problem? There were some ship model changes in an update that broke some already-existing Player ships and the Osaka might have been one of them. I recall that issue tried to put all IREs into changed turrets on affected Player ships and the Osaka cannot mount IREs. The only soultions there were to sell and buy again, or to clone the ship using a cheat.

One last question. Have you ever been modded with a 3rd party turret script set? If you ever have been and have not completely deleted the gamefolders but just done game uninstalls or script disablements since, then those scripts will still be hanging around in your scripts folder and could be causing this problem by being called in mistake for a vanilla script.

This is happening to all my ships, I tried buying a new ship but it still happens to that ship as well. The game is up to date 2.5.2 . But the mod thing it's possible I've had this game on my PC for several years and it's possible I added and removed a mod but I don't know how to check for scripts that shouldn't be there. the only two mod's I have now are the X-Tra and the Roquey-UFJD. It's very puzzling

Yes then something in your game installation is broken. I would recommend a complete game folder delete and clean vanilla reinstall and then just reinstall the mods/scripts you want. To be honest I should also say that there is a chance that the corruption may now be embedded in your gamesaves - if so you may have to do a fresh start. I would also do this if you reinstall.

I'm betting you have MARS or one of the other third-party turret scripts installed. That's common behaviour for those scripts. They put a token weapon in each turret and then automatically swap to whatever weapons the script thinks appropriate.

Yes we explored that. The OP says not.

X-tra Ships mod does not claim to use weapon swapping scripts but it does say this about known bugs:
Unfortunately this mod isn't without issues, here are some known issue you might encounter and solutions them. Please note that these issues will is likely to occur when you play the mod with a vanilla savegame.

Some ships appear to have unusable IREs in their turrets
- You need to use Cycrow's Cheat Script and clone the ship.

I was going off of what he said in a later post:

Do you think if I did a complete reinstall and then put the last saved game I have now into the new save folder that it might work? Another idea I had was to just install the game under C/program files instead of C/program files (86) where it is now. Another thing is I still have a copy of X3TC in C/program files (86) / Egosoft. My Steam account is also under C/program files (86). I hope I haven't confused you because I'm completely confused now!!! It's time for rebirth

It really doesn't matter what drive or folder you use (see below) and multiple copies only interact by trying to use the same saves in Documents unless you move the saves or use a Gamesave Manager. The exe file will only get the gamefiles from the folder path it resides in or has been told to use in the shortcut if different. Cross-contamination of separate copies (even different versions and mod states) is not an issue. I have many versions of vanilla and varying mod states on my system.

If you want to use a Programs Files folder protected by UAC (no need to), then Programs Files (86) is the correct one for 32 bit programs like X3, Program Files is intended for 64 bit programs.

Whether your extant save will work after a reinstall will depend on 3 things:

1. You have removed all previous 3rd party and corrupt files by doing a folder delete and clean reinstall. Consider the virtual store as I linked too..

2. You having reinstalled the same updated version, Bonus Pack and same 3rd party mods/scripts.

3. There being no corruption already in your saves.

<ninja-ed by Alan "the fingers" Phipps">

To answer the first question - Yes Dave. However, a reinstall probably isn't enough, which is why Alan was advocating a clean install. That said and to reiterate what Alan said, if the corruption has made it's way into your saves, you might be scuppered.

Here's hoping not :)

You could always check on the MARS forum (or one of the other turret mods you may have installed) and look at the removal process. Then check to see if you still have the offending files or scripts.
