No-steam executable

Not sure if this is the right board for this, but I was wondering what the benefits of using the no-steam executable are, besides not having to run steam. Does it give you better performance or something?

Nothing gained apart from not having to be online to connect to Steam. You might lose the ability to update the game in future and you definitely lose the Steam achievements and in-game social networking facilities (while using that version).
