Adding a BRAND NEW sector in 1.3 . . . How?
OK, I've activated the Galaxy Editor in 1.3, "H", "Add sector" and I cannot add a NEW sector. By new, I mean a sector not currently existing on the galaxy map template.
I tried the Galaxy editor with 1.2 and an unsupported patcher. It worked fine except it wouldn't add a brand new sector either. I added one manually in the universe.xml file and made a matching set of gates. The new gate in a known sector worked fine, I jumped to my new sector (0,7) even though the new sector didn't show on the galaxy map. However, the galaxy map was completely blank once in my new sector. When I tried to jump out, the gate text was correct but the gate didn't work and I was stuck in my new sector.
Remap the current template doesn't mean new does it?
Edit: Does anyone know where this "template" is stored?

From what i've seen you can only start a blank universe and fill in the current sectors with anything you want that's ok though but it would be nice to place *new* sectorstwistedtech wrote:OK, I've activated the Galaxy Editor in 1.3, "H", "Add sector" and I cannot add a NEW sector. Yes i noticed that it doesnt let you add a totally new sector too. Im guessing theres a file needs editing some place but you can make a copy of the existing universe and edit that. You just need to extract the cat and dat files and look in maps for a file called X2universe. Extract it, rename it and load the galaxy editor and select it.

Yeah I did that with 1.2. I added a sector manually in the xml. added stations etc. The new sector doesn't show up in the galaxy map. That wasn't a big deal as it was a secret sector anyway. I was able to jump into the new sector, dock, etc. Go to jump back out and the gate didn't work even though it appeared correctly in the sector map (correct destination). . . . unless I missed something but I don't think so.
I'll rinse and repeat the attempt in 1.3.

I've done this in 1.3, at least it's now easier to create gates than in 1.2, but I still haven't found a way to name the new sector or link it to the 440001 file. Any ideas? Oh, it still doesn't show up on the universe map.twistedtech wrote:Yeah I did that with 1.2. I just made a new sector with working gates (1.3). I prefer to do this part manually while staring at the map from CJ's site. I now know what I did wrong in 1.2 with the inop gate. I was linking the new gate to a non existent destination gate
In 1.2, I tried changing some text in a couple of files. I found the references to the sector names and descriptions and gave a go at changing/adding to them. The only thing I accomplished was buggering up a lot of the other text.
The new sector just doesn't show up in the galaxy editor galaxy map but it is there. If I position the sector highlight cursor over the new sector, it ( the highlight) disappears and by pressing "g" I arrive in the new sector.

I've added ships, stations, products etc and should have a couple of working factories just like the ones already in the game. They all appear to work in the galaxy editor. Only thing I'm lacking is names on the galaxy map still.
Later today I'll repack everything just like it was and see if the game will run "unmodified". That would be nice as I haven't and don't want to bugger up any existing sectors except for the addition of new gates.

With reference to the map details, I seem to remember someone saying that the map is a reference map and was pre-drawn when the game was made. The computer just looks at where you are and where you have been by referring to this map. If you could find where it is stored, perhaps you could amend it to include you new sectors.
Hope this helps
