Grapical Glitch - Orange/White box instead of explosion - Fixed by verify.

Post by Citizen Gish »

Hi all,

Just purchased X3 Terran Conflict and it's expansion Albion Prelude. My problem is essentially what the subject says: Anytime anything is blown up, be it a ship or a space station, a flat, orange then white box will appear over the area. I assume this is some sort of glitch. I've tried adjusting the graphics settings back and forth but to no avail. I have an nivida geforce GTX 550 Ti and it's completely up-to-date. I tried the old "Google it" tactic, but couldn't find anything on the subject. Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I'd be happy to provide any info needed. What specifically are you looking for? The GTX 550 Ti is on version 310.70. The graphical settings on the game itself are maxed out. Also, they were purchased on Steam, if that makes any difference.

Read the post at the top of the forum...it lists a requirement for a dxdiag report amongst other details....it makes things alot easier to diagnose and saves everyone time.

Sorry for the double post. I thought it might help if I uploaded an image of the issue in question.

Triple post. Many pardons.

I found the problem. These are, as mentioned, the Steam copies of the game. Uninstalling and reinstalling did nothing for me. On a friend's suggestion, I right clicked the two games in my Steam library and clicked properties -> local files -> validate cache. Upon completing the check on Terran Conflict, one missing file was found. I went on a rampage in Home of Light just to ensure it was fixed. No more boxes.

Many thanks to cakes for looking into it for me.

No need for thanks, I didn't do anything.

Usually the first place to start is reverifying the steam cache for both TC and AP (if your playing AP).

Anyway, glad you sorted the issue.

On an earlier point, in the future if you need tech support, it would be best if you post the full dxdiag, as there is information on sound, codecs, etc that can prove crucial.

Good to know for future reference. My knowledge of computers is amateur at best. The games are running nice and smooth so hopefully I won't need to pester anybody else.
