Game crashing - Terran Conflict

Only have the bonus content for Terran Conflict added.

Been playing Terran Conflict for a long while (logged over 100 hours in about a span of a week.) Played the game starting as Terran Defender and I currently am on the Terran Plot mission where I have to help an NPC (maybe he was Teladi?) destroy some of his "friends" so that he can get into the space weed market (forgot the quest number sorry but can't access the game in current condition.)

I have 8 save files in that sector (unfortunately I have a tendency to save every 5 minutes at a docking station so all my save files are in that sector, Sanctity of Corruption.) On my most recent save file, after playing for 5 minutes or so, the game would freeze and the audio would repeat itself unless I alt tabbed out. If I jumped through a gate, regardless of the 5 minutes it would still freeze. I have tried previous save files in that same sector and the time to freeze. No error messages pop up, only the game stuck in a frozen state and the only way to close it would be to end process through the task manager. I have tried going back to the earliest save file and saving at a another station but it still freezes after a variable amount of time (lasting to 5 minutes of game time.)

I uninstalled all the X games in my steam library and reinstalled Terran Conflict only. It didn't have an effect. I have tried running the game in windowed mode with no luck. I tried playing it with steam offlline mode and no luck. This is the first X game I played and it really would be a shame if I end up starting over. I even did a disk check for the drive it is on, and it may have contributed to having an extended game time of 15 minutes.

As vr01 says. Yours is an IDT onboard sound chipset so check this out.

As your freeze is sector- or time-specific then some things to check:

If you have any traders on a manual trade run then stop them and see if the freeze still happens. There is a freeze bug on the manual trade script on the ship docking under certain rare trading circumstances.

Check the sector you are in for either an NPC TL (with a station kit onboard) or a military or RRF capital that is acting strangely (not moving or just zigzagging). Sometimes they get 2 conflicting equal priority script tasks and go into lock-up if you are IS. Going OOS and sending a remote ship back to look for these issues sometimes helps to avoid the freeze.

Well, after trying for ages, I am unable to update the Audio driver. The website you provided states, "We are not allowed to distribute OEM drivers to end-users." Tried running the driver software from the CD but it wasn't compatible with Windows 7 (only XP and Vista).

However, your tip on stopping the Manual trade worked. But does this mean I cannot do manual trade with my ships anymore?

Also, while the problem is gone, I noticed that RAM usage (from the G510 keyboard) on the game goes abnormally high. While idle, physical RAM usage stays at about 30-40% but while running the game, it jumps to about 80-90% and task manager states it is using 1.5+ GB of ram.

Have you looked for an IDT driver update on your mobo manufacturer's update site?

Glad you resolved the freeze issue. You can use manual trade commands as the freeze happens only under fairly rare trading conditions (the number of wares you set to buy versus the number then in stock). Use the manual trade commands and if a freeze happens again then you know what to do.

If you were to buy and fit another say 2 Gb RAM then with that x64 OS, the X3 exe would use up to 3.5 Gb of RAM and the game would run much better. At the moment with only 4 Gb RAM fitted, when the game runs out of available RAM (ie at about 1.5 Gb after the graphics card, drivers, services and and OS etc have had their needs) it will use slow access HDD pagefile.
