Very weird issue

Post by cjuero1123 »

I have just encountered something very odd w/ Terran Conflict. I played last night [Nov 30 2012] until about ~10:30 pm, no issues. This morning [well, this afternoon about 10 minutes ago] I launched the game and went to load a save game.

The save game time stamps seemed a little weird, but I thought maybe my memory was playing tricks on me . I get in game and fine myself in a game that I not only scrapped, but deleted the save files for [the first hint was the scripts I run re-initializing themselves].

I checked the folders previous versions and it showed the save files I had deleted before starting the new game [which is right], but no changes 'detected' by the operating system since [as in removal of files at least]. I did not run any file recovery software or anything like that - and the game doesn't support Steam Cloud so it wasn't one of Steams wonderful synch errors.

Any ideas on how this could have happened? I am guessing my last 'real' save file might be in there somewhere, but the time stamps are all wrong and I don't remember where I left off. Is it possible that installing new scripts could have somehow 'recreated' old save data in the new files?

Here is a list of scripts I run [I just installed Pirate Guild, Improved Races, Marine Repairs, and Mobile Mining Mk2 this morning [with the required lib[s]]

Any ideas? The last game I was working on was finally going well for me.. now I have to face starting all over again :/

Yes, it sounds like you changed your user account to play your modded games but after you rebooted your system you logged back on to your default original user account. To find your modded saves you must log on as the new user you used for the modded games.

@Alan - nah, I use only one user account [and am versed enough in computers to know where to find wayward files if using multiple users]. It appears to be something with the Plugin Manager - my new saves were there, but it seemed that at some point during a script install w/ the manager my old saves were recovered.

I believe this is linked to the plugin managers' 'Save Manager' - for some reason it had backup saves stored somewhere and copied them into the current save folder. Then, for some reason, all of the time/date stamps were reset to the point in time it happened. I have no clue why this occurred - maybe I did something accidentally, but at least no actual progress was lost. I am going to disable the Save Manager and keep a close eye on the folder if/when I install new plugins to see if it happens again.

Now all I need to do is delete the old saves again so I don't get confused.

Thanks for the help though, even if it wasn't the cause of my issue :)

OK, glad it is sorted. Since this is likely to be an issue to do with the Plugin Manager, you need to take this any further in its thread in S&M.
