Loading Scripts?

could someone please tell me how to get scripts to work. I've got the scipt editor up but for the scripts i've tried i don't see any difference. I get to the 'new scripts' window and from there im lost. Ta

Anyone? help please! the x-scripting site assumes I know what the fudge I'm doing, and I don't.
