Re-Crash to desktop during loading (X-tension)

Post by Avis »

I had a bit play about, re-formated hard disc so thought may as well do some detective work,
problem is since last time I played X-Tension I've upgraded, Graphics card, sound card, hard disc, enabled LAN, motherboard, CPU, RAM, case, ermm basicaly nearly a completly difernent system.

anyway,
re-install put BASIC drivers in (ie sound graphics motherboard)
X-Tension wasnt playing
(DX-8)
installed DX8.1 same story,
and before i had DX9, so that elliminates Microsofts hell child.
resorted to basic sound drivers (as a sensaura message was popin up just before crashing so thought 'sound') anyway wasnt sound.

cut to chase,

Detornator 41.09 = no good for X-Tension
Detornator 40.72 = work hunky dory

I've been running the 41.09's for awhile now on Xp with no probs.

Last week I installed AMD XP2400, GA-7VAXP mobo, and new ddr ram and the only probs I have is my cd-rw will now only recognize cd-r's.

The game has never run as fast or looked as good.

Detonator 41.09 = no good for X-Tension!??? :o

That driver is brilliant for X-Tension mate. If you have a problem it ain't with that driver it's with something else. :)

simple process of elimination,
all configurations involving 41.09s FOR ME (GF3 pure) X-tension wont load no iffs no buts it just wont no matter what,
change 41.09s with earlier drivers X-Tension suddenly works without incident,

pretty clear cut to me, not necessarily a problem with all Geforce cards but with this ASUS GF3 definately.

Then it's your card that's the problem!

I'm running a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 and X-Tension is as smooth as silk.

I'm using a borrowed GF4MX420 atm and the 41.09's are the best I've used yet. The new cpu is no longer the bottle neck in the system.

Standardization is great ain't it

XP2000+ and GF3 (with 40.73 dets) runs X-T silky withy every detail ramped to hilt and at MAX resolution my monitor can take (1280x1024x32bit 72hz refresh) :D
