Trying to get a script to work

Post by eyelevel »

Hello,

Now before I start, I just want to let you all know that I am a total novice when it comes to understanding about scripts and getting them to work, I am also not the person trying to make my own scripts, no I want to ask how I can get a downloaded script to work as I am having a problem. :(

I downloaded one and I was told to go into X2 and load my game then go to the Command Console and activate the scripting editor by hitting S, then hit L to load it, I have done this and it does'nt work! :(

I am keen to try out some scripts I have found but please can someone assist me to get it to work? :)

Another thing is that one script told me to put the files into the scripts folder and then run one particular file? now as I said I am a total newbie and need help please? :)

Many thanks in advance

before you can use the script editor to load/run scripts, you have to enable it.

fly into an empty area of space (has to be in space, not a station), and make sure there is nothing in front of you...

then type 'Thereshallbewings' (without quotes, but with a capital T).

note: the 'b' will activate your boost extension, hence making sure nothing is in front of you :)

now, the script editor should appear in your ships console.

Hi,

Thanks I shall do that again, I did try that before but, all the other menus kept appearing and the ships voice kept on coming on! lol so it was'nt working either, but I shall go try again.

Many thanks :)

Oh before I forget, is it easy to load a script in or run it rather?

Only some of the readme's in the zip files don't explain things for total fools like myself!

you have to be flying in open space, with no menus/windows open...

once you start typing, your ship may bleep at you, etc, but keep going...

once you start the editor, as long as you read the instructions etc, its easy enough to use...

(scripts should appear in the script browser automatically, providing you put them in the right place).

from the main script editor menu, select 'Script Editor', to bring up a list of scripts. highlight the one you want to run, and press 'R'. I have no idea what the next screen is for - i just always select 'null' :). The next screen should show you the script to be run, and any input values required. hitting enter will prompt you to enter each parameter in turn. Once they are all entered, the script runs, and you are returned to the script browser.

I've looked at all the buildings in the Sector I am currently in and I can't find one  :(

I feel such a fool

Eyelevel

PS: How could I zip and send it? sorry but I am not used to things like this :( Ignore this bit I do know how to Zip it I just right clicked a save file to see if the option to zip it came up and it did so I could do that at least!

ignore the bit about the ecliptic projector - its bound to the 'G' key - as long as no menu's come up, you can ignore what the voice is saying.

Ah ok, the only other reason I can think of that might be stopping me getting it up and that is the fact that I am flying in the Cockpit view, is this a possible problem?

Other than that I have done and tried what you have said and still no good :(

This is getting frustrating, everytime I try to start typing the Thereshallbewings as soon as I hit the s the ship menu opens but the long and short of it is that I still cannot get the Editor up, please can some-one possibly do this for me as The Rock suggested? or at least tell me what I am doing wrong, although I am doing exactly what was instructed above!

I really want to try out a few scripts, but can't because of the nightmare process it takes for getting the editor up! (those who did'nt have a problem are obviously gifted as I am not)

Typing text in the game can be extremely sluggish at times. Try practicing typing it as your name or the name of a ship and you'll see how slowly you have to type to get it to work.

Well its a nightmare! does everyone else have this problem? :)

I'm still trying and no luck, have to try it your way then moggy2 :)

And one other relevant question, do you have to do this each and everytime you want to run a script? or does the editor remain in-game after you have tried for the millionth time to get it to work?

I mod the game alot and thus start new games frequently. I've activated the script editor at least a hundred times in the last couple of months and it still takes 2 or 3 attempts sometimes to type Thereshallbewings. The game seems to be very picky about how fast you type it in. When all else fails, try, try again: (shift) t (release shift)hereshallbewings

As for your last question; No, once you've activated it, it stays on until you start a new game or load a previous save.

Hoorah!!!!!!!!!! for the TOP PLONKER here!!!!!!!!!

I've got it

But to be fair it was people saying Capital T that threw me, so I was ignoring the Shift T! and kept tapping Caps Lock on and off!

Thanks guy's for telling me about the shift, no offence to the others saying Capital T either, its an easy thing to mis-understand :)

Now all I'll have to do is screw the game up (that's easy for me)

Although yes I do have my latest saves backed up, (I do have a few brain cells left doh!!!!!!

Cheers all

Oh thanks I will check em out as I don't know which ones to try and what to avoid :? :)

I also don't want to get scripts that are kinda for cheating as although I am not doing at all well in the game and money is a massive slog for me to get I still want to play the game without things being made easier if that makes sense, so thanks The_Rock!

Hi I'm back again as I now don't quite follow the above about entering each parameter in turn............I really am non-plused at this point and totally out of my depth! I have the 'Advanced Shipyards' script but do not know how to get it to run/load as these parameters that need entering is confusing me, what do I enter? and how many etc...........I need a spot of tuition here! please

Cheers
