Help!

Post by zlo »

Hey, I got a problem with XBTF. Is there a separate forum on that game (if it hadn't died yet - the game is sooo old) or can I post here?

well, I got into discussion on X2 the other day, and decided to restart XBTF to remember the old days. I'm still in Seizewell now, doing some trading. Accidentally I noticed space fuel floating by and dragged it into my ship. So, now I don't find where to sell it, since no factory is interested, and I have no clue how to use it. It occupies the space without any real use. I can't even jettison it.
Another question - is there a way to make money FAST?

you push "F" I think. I can't remember.

And X isn't that old. :P There are older games!

F allows you to select cargo, then you need to open the cargo doors to eject it.

Alternatively you may be able to find a Trading Station where you can legally trade Space Fuel (Whisky) though it's been quite some time since I played X-BTF

Incidentally, why are you playing X-BTF if you have XT?

I think that as in X-tension you can sell it to the pirates at pirate bases?

Be careful though, in X-BTF you get scanned a hell of a lot more and the local fighters won't be happy if they catch you with illegal products!

Thanx for the suggestion - I first opened the cargo bay and only then pressed F. Looks like I did it the other way around. Still, a bit pity I have to throw out good ol' whiskey (pity I can't use it myself  )
I still don't have XT - I'm currently trying to find it. On the other hand, XBTF is the only game that I've had for some time and haven't gone through it yet - suppose it's a matter of principle :) .
Still, is there a way to make easy money ASAP?

In X-BTF the only "easy money" solution is to trade up until you get around 10-12,000 credits. You can then buy yourself a Solar Power Plant and place it in Seizewell (starting sector) near the South gate. You'll need to keep the plant stocked with crystals yourself, but there's a crystal fab within easy reach (one sector south of Seizewell). Set your selling price low (around 10Cr) and you're guaranteed custom; then just sail off round the universe for a couple of hours and you'll have enough waiting for you when you get back to start getting into SERIOUS factory ownership.

NOTE: This tip does not work in X-Tension in any way, shape, or form, so don't try it if or when you get that game!

I was lucky the second time I played XBTF, as I entered Profit Share from Seizewell, the xenon destroyed a freighter at the south gate. I found a cargo container that was either 2 or 3 unit of microchips (or was it quantum tubes, been a long time!). I think they were worth about 7500 credits a piece. Fast way to get a solar power plant.

Best to avoid space fuel (too far to nearest pirate base). Spaceweed is useful as the trading station accepts it. Space flies OK if don't mind going to Family Whi. But watch the local police fighters, best to give them a wide bearth.

Agreed, illegal substances are more trouble than they are worth in X-btf.

But if you really want to sell illegal stuff, the nearest pirate base to Seizewell is Company Pride which is 4 jumps due south of Seizewell.
The Company Pride Pirate Base is a little north of the north gate, outside the grid, in an asteroid field. But be carefull of system security ships, obviously, they will have no problem shooting you down if they catch you with anything stashed in the glove box

it would be good if you could have a factory and you choose what you wanted to sell, instead of making products, it could just sell them.

There is a pirate station where you can sell fuel. But it is not in Seizewell. Look for a map, I guess someone around must have one.

Yes, good plan.
Or even that we could own trade stations and just stock up on whatever we want then sell on at a prophit.

go to www.the-commander.com (CJ's excellent site) and you'll find what you need there.

thanx, AI! I owe you one.
(a bit later)
uh, where do I look for the maps there? If I press XBTF link, I get directed to http://www.egosoft.com/X/xmain.asp.
Is there a special link?
(after some time)
Got it!
Thanx again!
