X3 AP Steam update question (DVD install)

So...I finally bit the proverbial bullet and installed X3:AP(boxed set)

Now a question for those that have installed it, does it really download gigs of data? I had thought that the disc should have alerady installed most of the required files and it seemed to be downloading an extraordinary amount of files when I installed it.

No, it doesn't download a lot of data. Steam may show you the full size of the game (possibly even including the X3TC stuff) but it won't download it if you've already got it in the right place on your hard disk. If it really does start downloading vast amounts of data then you're doing something wrong!

Well, I'll have to uninstall and test again. It really did seem like there was an unusual amount of data being downloaded.

Did you make absolutely sure that the Steam installer was pointed to the same place (drive and folders etc) as where you installed from the DVD? If Steam cannot find the game files already there where it looks then it will try to install everything in that location.
