Steam refusing to work after last update

I've been having some trouble with X3, as of late with the new Steam update
every time I install X3, and try to run it everything works fine, but when I restart steam, it keeps saying "there was a problem with your steam installation, please reinstall steam"

I have tried doing that many times, but the error only appears if I have X3:TC installed, is anything else having this issue or is it just me?

Every other game works fine though, but I'm only interested in X3 AP!
